Cousin of man gunned down in double homicide believes victims knew shooter

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Two people were gunned down on Milwaukee's north side on Monday night, April 21st -- and as police look for a motive, loved ones are wondering who did it. They tell FOX6 News they have a feeling it may be someone the victims knew.

FOX6 News spoke with the cousin of one of the victims -- who is affectionately known as "Wookie." Wookie's cousin says the shooting happened while Wookie was upstairs with his girlfriend and a friend.

Police have released few details about the shooting that occurred near 42nd & Villard -- but Wookie's cousin tells FOX6 she thinks someone inside the apartment where the victim's bodies were found may have known the suspect -- and may have even let the person in.

Nicole Windom says the last moment's of her cousin's life continuously replay in her mind.

"That's not going to ever come out of my mind," Windom said.

Windom says it was around 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21st when she heard a lot of commotion.

"His bedroom is right on top of my room. Then I heard 'boom, boom' and a whole lot of screaming. We heard a lot of rumbling and bumping. My son claimed he heard gunshots," Windom said.

Windom ran upstairs.

"His girlfriend was upstairs acting hysterical. He was on the floor. I felt his heart beating. His right eye was still open. He had blood on his forehead and the left side. Told my son to turn him over and that's when me and some other lady up there started praying. My son had to pull me off of him, because I wouldn't stop holding him. I was praying for him. I want his soul to go to heaven," Windom said.

Windom says Wookie was gunned down along with his friend, who was in the back room at the time of the shooting. She says Wookie's girlfriend was unharmed.

"Wookie`s pockets were pulled out like somebody went through his pockets. Her purse is sitting on the counter untouched," Windom said.

Police say they don't believe this crime was a random act.

"A lot of people feel it was set up," Windom said.

Windom says the door to get upstairs and into the victim's apartment is always locked.

"You have to have a key to let the person in. Normally when someone comes for Wookie, he throws the key down. He is not going to throw the key down to someone unless he knows who it is," Windom said.

Windom is now without her cousin and she doesn't know why -- but there's one thing she knows for sure.

"He was a sweet person and would give you the shirt off his back," Windom said.

Police do not yet have a motive in this case, and no one is in custody.
