Labor shortage: What's impact of retirements on state's economy

GREEN BAY (AP) — Economists are warning that a lack of workers could stagnate Wisconsin's economy in the next 25 years.

The state is expected to see a large number of baby boomers retire, and residents over age 65 will grow from 14 percent to 24 percent of the population. The portion of the population that is working age is expected to stay about the same during that time.

Department of Workforce Development economist Jeff Sachse says that could create labor shortages that businesses haven't really experienced before.

He says there's been a lot of talk about the need to train workers for jobs, but little attention has been paid to a potential lack of workers.
