Animal cruelty: Two more convictions tied to Wiese Bros. Farm

GREENLEAF, Wis. (WITI) -- After being caught on hidden camera abusing cows, Crescencio Pineda and Misael Monge-Minero have pleaded no contest to a total of four counts of animal cruelty in Brown County Circuit Court. These are the third and fourth convictions for animal cruelty of workers connected to the Wiese Brothers Farm in Greenleaf, Wisconsin.

These latest convictions come after an undercover investigation by Mercy For Animals at Wiese Brothers Farms in Greenleaf, Wisconsin, documented Monge-Minero viciously kicking, whipping, beating and stabbing cows in the face and body, and Pineda using machinery to cruelly hoist sick or injured cows into the air.

Following the release of Mercy For Animals' graphic footage, two other Wiese Brothers Farms workers, Abelardo Jaimes and Lucia Martinez, were convicted of multiple counts of animal cruelty last month.

Pineda and Monge-Minero, who were both convicted this week, have been ordered to pay fines totaling up to $1,322.

Mercy For Animals praises the Brown County Sheriff's Department and District Attorney's Office for taking swift and decisive action in pursuing justice for these abused and exploited animals.

This is the fifth undercover investigation by Mercy For Animals in recent years that has led to criminal animal cruelty convictions against workers at dairy factory farms, illustrating the rampant animal abuse allowed to fester, undetected and unaddressed, throughout our nation's dairy industry.

Currently, there is no governmental oversight of animal welfare, nor a single federal law that provides protection to animals on factory farms.
