"Cascade of bullets" as three shot, two killed on "Ceasefire Sabbath"
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- On a beautiful Sunday afternoon -- a triple shooting in the city of Milwaukee -- on Ceasefire Sabbath. Milwaukee police say three people were shot near 11th and Atkinson on Sunday afternoon, May 18th -- and two people have died.
Neighbors tell FOX6 News they heard a "cascade of bullets" just before 2:00 p.m.
"The shooting seemed like it wasn't going to stop. I know it had to be someone's loved one because they were crying so hard man," Ezell Thornton said.
Family members tell FOX6 News 31-year-old Wilbert Lewis was shot and killed.
Family members say they're not sure what triggered the violence.
Police will only say a 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members say Lewis' body rested outside the door of Atkinson Beer and Liquor.
"They don't care about day or night now. (Lewis) didn't pick with nobody man. Didn't pick with nobody. Somebody seen something. Somebody seen something," Lewis' uncle, Tony Lewis said.
Police say a second man, age 49, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
That man later died as a result of his injuries.
A third victim -- a 48-year-old man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound and is in stable condition.
Police say no one is in custody in connection with this shooting incident.
The shooting occurred in the same area where children play in a nearby park.
"Who wants their kids to get hit by a stray bullet? YOU don't want to get hit by a stray bullet," Thornton said.
Thornton describes more than a dozen shots in broad daylight during Sunday afternoon's shooting.
"Non-stop. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom -- like this. We just seen groups of people running like a stampede of cows or something, you know. I just hope they catch the people who did this to the people," Thornton said.
Sunday afternoon's shooting comes hours after Milwaukee police responded to three shooting incidents on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
