Closure: Family gathers around new headstone for "Caly Kris"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Almost six months after his murder, a popular Milwaukee club promoter has a headstone. Relatives say it was made possible by a number of donations.

Family and friends of Christopher Gray shared stories on Friday morning, May 23rd at Valhalla Memorial Park. The popular club promoter known as "Caly Kris" was killed in November 2013 when he came home during a burglary.

On Friday, those closest to Gray held a memorial centered around a new headstone.

"It meant a whole lot, meant a whole lot. You know, just the love from everybody meant a whole lot because it was even people that didn't know Kris that donated to help out," said Lisa Fanroy, Gray's mother.

Those at the memorial service called for neighbors to take more responsibility for the safety of their streets.

"What we have to do is people in the community, is band together and turn these people in. We've got to stop harboring these killers that's out here doing things and robbing people, we've gotta turn against that," said Tory Lowe.

There was frustration and sadness at the memorial. But Gray's mother reminds everyone this is a celebration of her son's life -- and the effort to give him a proper place to rest.

So far, two people have been charged in connection with Gray's murder. Jonathan Sellers pleaded guilty to murder earlier this month and will be sentenced in August. 16-year-old Melvin Jones is accused of delivering the fatal blows with a hammer. He's being charged as an adult. He's due back in court in June.
