Suspect armed with a shotgun: Shots fired as police arrest two

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police arrested two robbery suspects early Sunday morning, May 25th on the city's south side. Police say one of the suspects was armed with a shotgun.

Police found the suspects driving a stolen van shortly before 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

Realizing the suspects were wanted for recent robberies -- the officers attempted to stop the van -- but police say the suspects failed to stop.

Police pursued the van until the driver failed to negotiate a turn at 1st and Beecher -- causing the van to strike a light pole and traffic signal.

Police say the driver of the van -- an 18-year-old Milwaukee man, fled from the van on foot -- and was quickly arrested.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries suffered in the crash.

A police officer had to fire rounds at the second suspect -- after police say that suspect exited the van armed with a shotgun.

The rounds fired by the officer did not strike the man -- and he was arrested, uninjured.

He is a 17-year-old from Milwaukee.

Police say these suspects will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for charges.
