Chief Flynn commends officers: "It's clear you've got a good plan here"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- On the heels of a violent week in Milwaukee, Police Chief Ed Flynn addresses officers before hitting the street. Flynn applauded the efforts of the officers at district three. He says they are setting the standard of how to stop violence despite dealing with it daily.

On a normal day at Police District Three, officers line up before starting their shift, but on Saturday, May 31st someone special joined them in the room.

"You're doing one hell of a job this year," said Chief Flynn. "It's clear you've got a good plan here in District 3."

The district has seen its share of violence. More than a week ago, 10-year-old Sierra Guyton was shot while she played on a playground. Thursday night, May 29th 26-year-old Jacoby Davis was shot and killed during a basketball game in a park.

"This is intolerable how people have to live in our most distressed neighborhoods.
We are their closest partner and we intend to do everything we can to keep them safe," said Flynn.

Part of that effort means keeping a close eye on neighborhood parks and playgrounds.

"That's just peace of mind knowing someone's out here watching and it can be prevented before it even happens," said Deanna Branch, Milwaukee parent.

A prevention that starts in this room, with officers trying to stay ahead of the violence.

"This is the place, really, I think, setting the standard for what we're trying to do city-wide," said Flynn.

Chief Flynn says he is encouraged by community engagement, and in order to keep the city safe, he says it will take everyone working together.
