"Can't explain how difficult it is -- losing your child:" Mom makes PSAs after son dies playing Choking Game

RACINE (WITI) -- A tragedy is being turned into a learning experience. A Racine mom is trying to drum up awareness about "The Choking Game" after her son died playing the game. She says she's hopeful a new PSA will open some eyes to The Choking Game's dangers.

Jeana Monroe's son is buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Racine.

"I can't come very much. I can't explain how difficult it is -- losing your child," Monroe said.

It was December 4th, 2012 when Monroe's life changed forever.

"My daughter found him. My five-year-old daughter," Monroe said.

Monroe's 15-year-old son R.J. was found dead in his room -- after playing The Choking Game.

"Losing your child is something you`re never going to get over," Monroe said.

Now, more than a year-and-a-half after R.J.'s death, Monroe is turning the tragedy into a warning.

Monroe has created two public service announcements that caution about the deadly game played to get a brief high.

"The amount of children who have died playing The Choking Game could easily fill up a cemetery," the PSA says.

The PSAs don't sugar coat a reality where children choke each other -- or do it themselves.

"The Choking Game kills," the PSA said.

Monroe wants parents to educate themselves and their children.

"My purpose it to save the kids and speak for R.J.," Monroe said.

Monroe has created these PSAs in the hopes that no other mother has to feel her pain.

"It`s hard to get up in the morning after you lose a kid -- but to get up and know that you could save somebody else, it really matters," Monroe said.
