“The only thing different about that day was that shot:” Did a trip to the doctor kill a healthy 12-year-old girl?

WAUKESHA (WITI) — A disturbing mystery — and a tragic end to a very young life. A 12-year-old Waukesha girl is dead — and there is seemingly no reason why — except perhaps, one.

Meredith Prohaska was an active, fun-loving 12-year-old girl one minute. A few hours later — she was unresponsive on the floor. In between that time, there was a trip to the doctor — and now, Prohaska’s family wonders if that’s what killed her.

“I’m a tough guy. I can take a beating — but this has ripped a hole in my heart,” Prohaska’s father, Mark Prohaska said.

Prohaska is describes as a girl who loved to be active — swimming and playing basketball while in sixth grade at Butler Middle School.

She loved to take part in activities at Horeb Springs Park.

“Vibrant. Full of life. She was our sunshine. Everywhere I go, everything I do — I see her,” Rebecca Prohaska said.

That’s where a FOX6 News crew met her mother on Thursday, August 7th to talk about the young girl’s unexpected death of July 30th.

Rebecca Prohaska took her daughter to the doctor for a sore throat. While they were there…

“She got her first HPV vaccine at around 10:30, 11 o’clock that morning,” Rebecca Prohaska said.

At some point, Rebecca Prohaska says she remembers getting a handout about possible side effects.

“Thirty minutes later she was trying to sleep. I kept waking her up,” Rebecca Prohaska said.

By 3:30 that afternoon, Rebecca Prohaska went out for a half-hour to get food.

“I came back and I found her on the floor,” Rebecca Prohaska said.

Rebecca Prohaska — a 14-year veteran EMT for the National Guard, performed CPR after calling 911.

Meredith Prohaska was pronounced dead at the hospital. No one could say why.

“It was the hardest thing when they called and said they don’t know. There was no reason. She was the healthiest 12-year-old,” Rebecca Prohaska said.

Rebecca Prohaska remembers a rare potential side effect of the HPV vaccine — an allergic reaction, but Meredith’s autopsy report rules her cause of death as inconclusive.

“The only thing different about that day was that shot. I wish I would’ve known more about it before I agreed to it,” Rebecca Prohaska said.

“It has to be that vaccine,” Mark Prohaska said.

The Prohaskas have donated Meredith’s organs and tissue so others can live a healthier life.

While her family waits for more tests — hoping for answers, they have a message for others. It’s a message the family is spreading on Facebook, and on a GoFundMe page set up in the young girl’s honor.

“Be aware of every possible side effect — and make sure you’re hugging them all the time because you never know when you’re just going to be left with pictures,” Rebecca Prohaska said.

Meredith Prohaska will be buried on Saturday, August 9th.

Meanwhile, Dr. Geoffrey Swain — a professor and medical doctor at the Milwaukee Health Department says by and large, the HPV vaccine’s benefits far outweigh the risks.

“Vaccines in general and the HPV vaccine in particular, very, very safe. It’s a very safe vaccine and very effective,” Dr. Swain said.

Dr. Swain says serious side effects are nearly one in a million.

“Very, very rare,” Dr. Swain said.

Parents need to read the actual insert that comes with a vaccine not the handout that they give you. There has been thousands of reaction s to this vaccine according to VAERS but yet it remains on the market.

The risks do not outweigh the benefits as the risks will be different for everyone. Some might be ok others might have a slight reaction & others will end up like this girl.

This is true with every vaccine. Not just the HPV vaccine.

      • Robin Simms

Do you keep your son away from unvaccinated adults too? The majority of adults, myself included haven’t had an updated vaccine since we were kids. Vaccines last about 10 years, to the most. You need to fear recently vaccinated people more than unvaccinated. They shed the vaccine/virus for up to a month after getting the shot. And, yes, they are contagious.

      • Lisa

Did your doctor warn you to stay away from recently vaccinated children who would be shedding a live virus?

      • Stephane

Wait your son received vaccination, hence “he is supposedly protected”, yet he is supposed to avoid unvaccinated children??? Don’t you see a flawed logic here???

      • Ursula

One of my grandsons had open heart surgery, too. Doctors kept trying to pressure his parents to vaccinate him as well, but they stayed strong and didn’t allow any vaccines.
The surgery was when he was 13 months old, and he is now an extremely healthy, sturdy three-year-old, who is never sick.
I’ve been actively researching vaccines for 23 years now. And my conclusion after everything I’ve read, the seminars I went to, and everything else I’ve found, is that not a single vaccine in all of history has ever been proven safe or effective. They’re all dangerous, and none work. They’re the biggest money-making scam in history. And they’re responsible for nearly ALL of the SIDS deaths, most autism, the rise in juvenile diabetes, autoimmune diseases, asthma, allergies (the peanut allergy epidemic is due to the undeclared peanut oil adjuvants to put into vaccines) and other problems.
The only studies that claim that vaccines are safe are the ones funded by pharmaceutical companies. Any independent ones you’ll find will confirm that vaccines are useless and dangerous.

        Ursula I LOVE your comment!

If only more people were as wise and educated as you! (I’d include “Dorit Reiss” aka “ReissD” in this but she is so corrupt, indoctrinated, greedy and immoral that she’s beyond redemption! But one day she will face justice for deceiving so many trusting people into getting their kids vaccinated and then killed or injured. What goes around comes around and karma is a b*tch!)

      • me

My son was allowed to receive vaccinations that are dead viruses only, not live virus vaccinations. Big difference. He was also not allowed any vaccinations 30 days prior to surgery, so his 6 month vaccinations were skipped and made up at 9 months. There are now so many parents that don’t vaccinate, diseases once thought long gone are coming back. I’m protecting my child and vaccinating.

      • someoneelse

Yet go into any NICU and they will say if you were recently vaccinated to stay AWAY From the babies! Because you endanger them by shedding. Especially chickenpox. You were lied to. Go and do some research and see what all you have NOT been told!

      • me

Jen, unvaccinated children can affect my son because he wasn’t fully vaccinated against certain things. He was only 6 months old

“I found this information months ago when my ex husband insisted on having our 11 & 12 yr old daughters vaccinated.
I will not approve of any un-mandated vaccines, and yes I am aware of how risky they are as well.
I am so sorry for these families.

My son suffers from an immunodeficiency disease. We have to stay away from anyone who has recently been vaccinated with any live vaccines, and he cannot receive any live vaccines himself as he could contract the disease he’s supposed to be getting “protection” from. And the drug he is on to keep him healthy inhibits the “effectiveness” of the vaccines anyway, making them pointless in his case. In today’s world you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. The HPV vax is one I would NEVER allow regardless of whether I was pro vax or not. Way too many girls are suffering after this vaccine.

      • steve479

REIS who pays you to spend your entire days stating this vaccine is safe?

It is people like you that convince others that this vaccine is totally safe when it is not. Thats why many families are then accused of Munchausen’s because there is no other explanation for their child’s illness. All of the early clinical trials were done on healthy adults, not on developing adolescents. It was then administered to adolescents without health checks. Also the trials were done without a proper control. Instead of the control being a totally benign shot it contained the same adjuvant as the vaccine shot and its the adjuvant that causes the harm. Thats why there was such a high rate of reaction to both the vaccine and the control.

You really are guilty of supporting hundreds of children being killed and maimed for life.

      • reissd

I can understand the anger of someone who believes their child was injured by vaccine, even if such belief is not based on medical or scientific evidence, but this is a vaccine that prevents an infection that causes thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of cancers each year and that the actual evidence shows is safe. Attacking it against the evidence can leave children at risk of the infection, at the cost of preventable deaths and suffering.

        A. The clinical trials were done on women aged 9-45, so they included adolescent girls.
        B. Doctors administering the vaccine have the girl’s medical history before them.
        C. The trial used two types of placebo: an aluminum salts based solution and a saline solution. To remind you, aluminum salts have been used in vaccines since the 1930s, they are in many infants vaccines, and in the tiny amounts in vaccines are not harmful. We get a lot more aluminum from other sources, including food. The claim that an infant can handle multiple shots with aluminum salts but a teen age girl cannot handle one a month is problematic.
Comparing the vaccine to an aluminum solution allowed researchers to isolate the effects of the active ingredient in the vaccine. Because aluminum salts are a known quantity, it helped really figure out whether the active ingredient is safe.

Nobody pays me to post; I respond to anti-vaccine misinformation because I care about children health and don’t want to see children harmed by a preventable infection.
Accusing your interlocutor of being paid is not a substitute to having evidence or arguments on your side.

      • Heather

Dorit at it again, When you see your child almost die, then and only then will you believe vaccines can and do kill, injure and destroy lives. Keep at it Dorit, you continue making a fool of yourself for all to see!!

      • reissd

Let’s recap. A girl is sick enough to go to the doctor with a sore throat. She also gets a vaccine. She comes home drowsy, and dies.

It’s natural for the mother, reeling from a horrible tragedy, to seek something to blame for her death; but it’s beyond irresponsible for the media to present this story in this fashion. There’s no evidence it was the vaccine; the girl was ill before she went in (so no, the only thing different that day was not the shot: she was ill); the vaccine’s safety is supported by multiple large scale studies from all around the world: http://hpv.kegel.com/safety/

Presenting it this way can deter parents from protecting their children against HPV infections, an infection that causes tens of thousands of cancers and thousands of deaths every year.

It will compound the tragedy if the way Meredith’s death is presented leads to cancers and deaths. It’s unfair to those left exposed to a preventable disease.

      • Anti-Vaccine Liberals

        Thoroughly tested MY A$$!!!

6 months of testing during which 17 girls/women DIED during the clinical trial is NOT what’d I (or anyone NOT corrupted by Big pHARMa and indoctrination by Paul PrOffit) consider “thoroughly tested”!!

Stop spreading biased corporate propaganda you filthy pig!! Stop whoring yourself for the Big pHARMa industry on every single vaccine-related post and GET A LIFE!!!

      • reissd

“6 months of testing during which 17 girls/women DIED during the clinical trial…”
That is untrue. The vaccine was in clinical trials since at least 2000 before its arrival on market in 2006. The clinical trials included almost 30,000 young women, aged 9-45. As to deaths, there were actually 40 deaths total, which included deaths both in the vaccine group and in the placebo group – and none were caused by the vaccine. Here is what the insert says: “Across the clinical studies, 40 deaths (GARDASIL N = 21 or 0.1%; placebo N = 19 or 0.1%) were reported in 29,323 (GARDASIL N = 15,706; AAHS control N = 13,023, saline placebo N = 594) individuals (9- through 45-year-old girls and women; and 9- through 26-year-old boys and men). The events reported were consistent with events expected in healthy adolescent and adult populations. The most common cause of death was motor vehicle accident (5 individuals who received GARDASIL and 4 individuals who received AAHS control), followed by drug overdose/suicide (2 individuals who received GARDASIL and 6 individuals who received AAHS control), gunshot wound (1 individual who received GARDASIL and 3 individuals who received AAHS control), and pulmonary embolus/deep vein thrombosis (1 individual who received GARDASIL and 1 individual who received AAHS control).” There’s more – here: http://www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/g/gardasil/gardasil_pi.pdf

Bad manners are really not a substitute to having facts and evidence on your side.

  • Dee Latta

Nice how the vaccine KILLS this poor child, and then you post a link to the CDC where they completely DOWNPLAY serious side effects & don’t even MENTION death as a possible reaction.

I am in touch with MANY parents who have lost a child to this vaccine & many young women who cannot conceive children either, as a result! There are NUMEROUS serious side effects to this vaccine. I just posted this to my timeline & within ONE minute I got this (from someone who I really had no idea what his position on vaccines is) “:My niece suffers tremors to this day from that shot. Her athletic career may be over because of those tremors.”

    Is THAT listed? Nope.

What’s wrong with reporting the TRUTH – & ALL of it?

According to VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) as of August 2013 a staggering 140 young girls have DIED after receiving Gardasil vaccine! Here’s the stats from VAERS website:

The VAERS statistics show that HPV vaccinations have caused the following adverse reactions in the US:

    Deaths: 140
    Disabled: 952
    Did not recover: 6,032
    Abnormal pap smear: 531
    Cervical dysplasia: 214
    Cervical cancer: 64
    Life-threatening: 562
    ER visit: 10,557
    Hospitalized: 3,065
    Extended hospital stay: 234
    Serious: 4,091
    Adverse events: 30,352

“It is estimated that only 1 to 10% of the HPV vaccine-injured are reporting. So start adding zeros on to the reports of 140 deaths. And then ask yourself – are the HPV vaccines deadly? For 140 families they are. And that’s just what is being reported.” [1]

As a parent, I hope these parents will demand an independent pathology report!

Dee, your nieces tremors probably fit into the Adverse events category. My daughter has had seizures for 6 years now due to this shot. They also consider that an Adverse event!!! Just crazy I can only say “I wish I wouldn’t have let some one talk me into this shot!!

    • Jennifer

I am actually positive that this vaccine caused me very bad illness. Didn’t realize it til years later when looking through medical records- I haven’t been that sick since those shots. And also when my doctor said I never should have gotten the vaccine to begin with bc of my age (17). I still ended up with HPV years later and continuously have abnormal paps. I will not let my child have this shot at all. Hell my husband nearly died from the whooping cough vaccine!

  • L

I’m all for vaccines if they’ve tested long enough and if the benefit outweighs the risk of the disease. BUT what irritates me the most is the denial that vaccines cause health issues because they most certainly do in some or many cases. And why would a vaccinating parent judge another or keep their vaccinated children away from non vaccinated children. If your child is vaccinated why worry if his friend is not? (I AM a vaccinating parent )

  • Evelyn Winstead

The parent that said that she has to keep her son away from un vaccinated children said that because he has a heart defect and had to have open heart surgery, any time surgery is involved it is best to stay away from any one that is sick all three of my girls are vaccinated i am one that feels the benefits out weigh the negatives we are getting more and more measel outbreaks because ppl choose not to not vaccinate there is many diseases that are very rare now due to the shots

    • Vic

Unfortunately you are very misled. Do the research. There is absolutely no logic in, or fact proven, that an unvaccinated person is a greater risk to your safety than a vaccinated child(who is carrying the actual virus). The exact opposite is the case, and every actual study done proves this. One day you’ll see you were lied to by ‘Journalists’.

      • zan

Enjoy your new strains of measles, small pox, and mumps. Oh, and hey! Thanks for bringing those to the rest of humanity.

        YOU IDIOT.

    • blah

if you do some research (i hope that doesn’t sound condescending, because that’s not how i mean it), you will learn that many of the recent measles outbreaks originated with vaccinated individuals, and was likely spread by them as well as the virus in the vaccine sheds and can be spread. also because those who vaccinate tend to have weaker immune systems, they are more susceptible to catching a virus. vaccines are nothing more than money scam-the CDC purchases four billion dollars worth per year alone. on their website they have a PDF that details how they go about motivating people to go purchase vaccines, one of many ways being by manipulating people through the media. the CDC literally admits in this document that they use scare tactics by using words like “deadly”, “life-threatening”, etc to describe diseases that aren’t nearly as dangerous as they make them out to be, and they push these articles during certain times of the year, eg flu season, to try to encourage you to go out and buy your self a vaccine. in theory i believe vaccines could be beneficial, but it’s all of the dangerous additives used to sterilize and weaken the virus in the vaccine that turns it into a game of Russian roulette.

      • Chris Hickie

That is a lie, BLAH. From the CDC website on the measles outbreaks this year (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm6322a4.htm): “Most of the 288 measles cases reported this year have been in persons who were unvaccinated (200 [69%]) or who had an unknown vaccination status (58 [20%]); 30 (10%) were in persons who were vaccinated. Among the 195 U.S. residents who had measles and were unvaccinated, 165 (85%) declined vaccination because of religious, philosophical, or personal objections, 11 (6%) were missed opportunities for vaccination, and10 (5%) were too young to receive vaccination”. Pleas stop spreading anti-vaccine lies.

  • Spencer

What makes you think that unvaccinated children are walking petrie dishes? This HPV vaccine is banned in other countries because too many of their young girls were dying. All you have to do is Google the vaccine and adverse reaction and you will see a “sea” of mothers grieving the loss of their girls, whether it is death or mental/physical problems. The guilt some of them talk about is tough to read about. If you don’t believe these shots are for profit then you are not paying attention. The marketing by your neighborhood pharmacy is INSANE! They are pushing the flu shots already and make incentives for their employees to administer the most vaccines! Money money money. Show me a true study that actually shows the vaccine vs someone not given the vaccine. The artificial immunization theory is great if you were just given it without all the nasty chemicals they throw into the needle as well that are harming our children. The info is out there, you just have to look for it, because your doctor will NOT always give it to you.

  • Cynthia Janak

Oh My God. When is this madness going to stop. When are people going to see that this is not a coincidence. This is happening all over the world. I am in tears. After 7 and a half years of researching and writing about this vaccine it still breaks my heart to see one so young cut down in the prime of her life because of Merck’s greed. This family will be in my prayers forever. Please STOP THIS MADNESS NOW!!!!!!!!!

  • Becky

Why would any doctor give a vaccine to someone who is ill? The poor child went in for a sore throat for goodness sakes. It used to be medicine 101 that you do not vaccinate someone who has a fever or any outward symtoms of illness. This HPV vaccine was fast tracked thru the FDA and has no safety studies behind it. Unless, of course, you count the on going safety study that is going on right now to see how many people die from the HPV vaccine. Dr. Swain has some brainwashed guts to make the statement that the benefits outweigh the risks. A reoprter needs to ask Dr . Swain the follow up question: ” Based on what evidence?” And/ or an

Every mother of a child who died was pro-vaccine, and that’s how their daughter was killed or injured. They trusted doctors like Paul Offit, who said you could safely vaccinate a child with 10,000 vaccines. 10,000 vaccines is 1.3 U.S. Gallons of fluid.
REISSD, a.k.a. Dorit Reiss, a.k.a. Dorit Rubenstein, is a known vaccine shill that gets paid for posting in forums and diverting blame from MERCK Pharmaceuticals. A. There is no medical or scientific evidence connecting the HPV vaccines to any deaths, as far as I know. It’s always tragic to lose a child, and the need to blame something is understandable, but without more evidence, the fact that the death happened after the vaccine does not show that the vaccine caused it. In fact, in several cases we have evidence of other causes – for example, of congenital heart defects.

        B. Anti-vaccine activists like to misrepresent Dr. Offit’s comment about 10,000 vaccines. Responding to the concern that children got too many vaccines too soon, Dr. Offit, relying on an article that calculated the theoretical capacity of a baby’s immune system, explained an infant’s immune system can theoretically hand 10000-100000 vaccines. He was not speaking about actually injecting an infant with 10000 vaccines. Here is the article the quote is based on, so readers can see: http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/109/1/124.full “Studies on the

        C. Untrue personal attacks on your interlocutor are not a substitute to having evidence and arguments. I do not get paid to post in these forums, my only relationship with Merck is as a customer – for example, I got the MMR for my child – and I have never “slammed” a parent that lost a child.

      • L. Vincent

Thank you Dorit for clearing up the fact that Paul Offit was lying and really meant to say that vaccine safety is purely hypothetical, and that a child can’t safely take lots of vaccines at the same time. I guess it was all in his mind – just like Conversion Disorder.

      • L. Vincent

“… Although the fetal immune system has the potential to respond to large numbers of foreign antigens, few foreign antigens are present in utero <<>>, and cells of the immune system are, therefore, primarily “naïve” at birth.<<>> ”
Paul Offit is totally wrong. The typical infant is born with over 500,000 Natural Killer Cells, each of which can mount a defense to different pathogens. I don’t need to read any further. Thank you Dorit, for pointing out additional false statements by Dr. Paul Offit. Perhaps we can have his medical license revoked. No wonder Offit refuses to debate anyone.

      • reissd

As I’m sure most readers understand, the issue is not that Dr. Offit was lying, but that anti-vaccine activists either misunderstand or misrepresent what he said.

      • reissd

        “Paul Offit is totally wrong.”
You do realize that nothing you said actually contradicts the quote, don’t you? I have two suggestions:
        A. Read what you’re responding to carefully. You seem to be misunderstanding it.
        B. Don’t assume you know more about the immune system than an immunologist and published scientist unless you have the publications – or at least studies by someone with actual expertise – to back it up.

      • L. Vincent

Dorit, please tell me the words in my post that you don’t understand. Name calling and insults don’t work on me. If you were just a typical mother, you wouldn’t be quoting Paul Profit and pasting pre-cut scripts from Pro-Vaccine websites…. and you definitely wouldn’t be listing things as A., B., C., etc., like filing a complaint with the CLERK OF THE COURT.
Let’s get back on topic: The GARDASIL HPV VACCINE has been found to be defective, and a judge in Spain has found that there is enough evidence to put MERCK on trial for the CRIMINAL OFFENSE of FRAUD. Since you allege to be a law professor moonlighting for the pharmaceutical industry, please comment on this CRIMINAL LAWSUIT AGAINST MERCK AND THE GARDASIL HPV VACCINE.

      • Anti-Vaccine Liberals

        L. Vincent, sadly, OF COURSE that is all “Dorit” does, because that is ALL that “Dorit” has, like the corrupt corporate whore she is!

All she has is biased quotes by corrupt vaccine patent-holder Paul PrOffit, and pasting pre-cut scripts from Pro-Vaccine websites…. and you definitely wouldn’t be

Dorit’s heartless responses (like listing things as A., B., C., etc.,) shows what a cold-blooded greedy whore she truly is!

  • Samara

The politics vehind the approval and encouragement of this vaccine is horrendous. The female legislators who had connections to the major pharmaceutical companies, and should have considered the ethics of thwir actions, instead promoted a vaccine that parents keep linking to their daughters deaths. You want to talk War on Women? Lets start with this vaccine. My daughter won’t be getting it no matter how much my doctor pressures me. Anecdotal evidence suggests that she has a highee chance of dying from the vqccine than she does of contracting and dying from the cervical cancer it is trying to prevent.

  • Becky

Another question for Dr. Swain: Do you think Merdith’s mother and father believe the benefits outweigh the risks? Another question for Dr. Swain: Have you read the medical literature about the deaths from the HPV vaccine? Are you aware that India and Japan have stopped using the HPV vaccine due to a death rate more than one in a million? I have more suggested questions if needed.

    • reissd

      A. To remind you, there’s no evidence at this point that Merdith’s death was from the vaccine. If the mother believes it’s the vaccine, of course she won’t believe the benefits outweigh the risks; but parents making the decision have to consider the risks/benefits generally. Just as you decide to put on a seatbelt even though, in rare circumstances, the seatbelt can kill you: you should choose the smaller risk. Vaccinating is a way, way smaller risk than not vaccinating.

      B. Japan stopped recommending HPV because of reports of pain, not deaths. It’s not banned there, just not recommended. Japan did so even though HPV infections kill over 2000 Japanese women each year. That’s hardly a good public health decision, but Japan has a history of withdrawing vaccines with no real evidence of harm and paying the price in sickness and deaths. For example, in the 1970s Japan withdrew the DTP because two babies died after it, even though there was no evidence the vaccine caused the death. Japan paid the price with a pertussis epidemic that killed 41 babies.
      I don’t think that’s a good example to follow.

      • Mike Stevens

And Japan made terrible decisions with their premature withdrawal of the MMR vaccine in the 1990s – this led to measles epidemics affecting quarter of a million children, with dozens of deaths.

  • Lori Harvey

Connie, here is a link direct from the CDC of the ingredients that are in all of the vaccines. If you were to give these ingredients to a child orally, you would be charged with child endangerment. But for some reason its ok to inject them.

A father of a vaccine injured child that is also a doctor obtained documents directly from the CDC that shows there is a problem with vaccines –

    http://www.prweb.com/releases/ASOT/Thimerosal/prweb11598819.htm

During the clinical trials of this vaccine, 17 girls died. A vaccine is supposed to be tested for 3 years before being put on the market. This vaccine was fast tracked in 6 months.

The MMR vaccine, varicella vaccine, oral polio vaccine, FluMist all shed for at least a month. Meaning people who get these vaccines can shed these viruses to others around them. So if you get these vaccines you need to stay home for at least a month so you don’t others sick around you.

Another link, thru the Freedom of Information Act. 30 years of documents show that vaccines are a hoax.

“If you were to give these ingredients to a child orally, you would be charged with child endangerment. But for some reason its ok to inject them.” You probably are giving your child quite a few of those ingredients orally – for example, aluminum salts are in many, many of our foods. But putting that aside, if I was to perform open heart surgery on my child, I would also be accused of child endangerment. Some things do need to go through doctors. Here is an explanation how we know vaccine ingredients are safe: http://www.immunize.org/concerns/vaccine_components.pdf

The HPV vaccines were in clinical trials since 2001 at least before getting on the market in 2006. There were deaths during the trials. None from the vaccine. Causes included, most commonly, car accidents, drug overdose and so forth.

Thank you for posting this. Sufficed to say, my husband and I will pull our daughters from public school in our big brother state of California when they turn the age our governor Jerry Brown deemed appropriate to administer the HPV vaccine without parental consent. First of all, girls can be carriers before they are sexually active (which if they have those certain strains already, the the shot is null), secondly, it’s not a lifetime guarantee (i.e., it’s sold to the consumers as a nearly full proof vaccine when in actuality it’s only supposedly statistically reduces ones risk for five years), and finally, the CDC is bought and paid for (along with all of the major networks and our government officials if we calling the roll) by big pharma, making most of what they purport as hard science questionable. Essentially, we as the parents and consumers must be our own advocates and research each vaccine before putting out our children’s arms. We are responsible for their well-being and we must not forget that neither our physicians nor the pharmaceutical industry are liable if something goes terribly wrong (you can thank our legislators in the 1980s for that). Blind faith can be deadly. Jumping off the soapbox now.

      A. The California law that allows minors to consent to certain vaccines – HPV and HBV – without parental consent, a law aimed to protect children from consequences of sexual activity (especially children who are sexually abused), does not apply only to those who attend public schools.

      B. It’s possible to get HPV before being sexually active, but less common.

      C. The vaccine is not only effective for 5 years. The vaccine has been studied for ten years at this point, and immunity has not seen to wane.

Here is a good source of information about HPV infections and the vaccine: http://www.chop.edu/service/vaccine-education-center/prevent-hpv/hpv-questions-answers.html

Huge kudos to Fox for actually reporting this in mainstream media. It still shocks me that people eat up most of the stuff that’s spewed on here encouraging people to vaccinate with bullying tactics towards those that have done the research and choose not to.

    • Mike Stevens

The last time such a claim was made about HPV vaccine in the UK (a girl dying the day of vaccination) it was determined she had died from an unrelated undiagnosed cancer; in other words it was just coincidence.
That does happen when millions of kids get vaccines – other stuff happens too.
Let’s wait for the results of the tests and autopsy before umping to any conclusions, shall we?

I am sorry to hear about the traggic loss to their child! My heart truly goes to this family at this difficult time. I have 2 daughters ages 18 and 21 that both received the full round of shots . 3 total over a 6 month period. No reactions . This shot was given to them about 3 years ago. I will keep you in my prayers

    Dear Family Prohaska

Please if not already too late do contact Lucija Tomljenovic: This researcher took part in studies of brain samples in threes different young girls dying without any other reason – after Gardasil.

Our daughter is injured but alive. All my thoughts are with you.

This is a tragety… No parent should have to bury their child! That being said… Autopsy is inconclusive! If there was an anaphlactic reaction, autopsy would show it! Typically your throat will be swollen closed, tongue enlarged, heart arrythmias etc! Its easy to blame the vaccination, but there are other factors to consider!!!! What was her health condition that morning before seeing the doctor? She had a sore throat.. Possible strep? Strep infections can attack the heart and cause arrythmias!!! Was she started on any antibiotics? Taking over the counter medications???? This is clearly not a clean cut case or cause!!!! Articles like this spread fear and propaganda!!!!!!

  • casisrad

Had a sore throat, went to see doctor, got the hpv shot……..for the sore throat? Seriously!? Doesn’t make sense! Sorry she passed but my kids wont get this shot. I inly go in to see the dr for whats ailing them not to get stupid shots that have nothing to do with why they are sick. Baffles me!

  • amanda

Well I guess I am the illuminati.. because I have ab blood. Crazy people I don’t get any of you.. it’s called taking a risk.. any type of shots are risky. . Never know what’s going to happen. Some can be immune some can have a horrible reaction like this little girl. Nobody knows what happened. But God so give it a break with this illuminati shit

  • reissd

This is a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to this family. What they faced is so, so horrible. My sincere condolences.

But the way this story is set up is liable to lead to more tragedies: families leaving their children unprotected against HPV infections, people getting cancer or dying because of it – when the story really does not support the claim that it was the vaccine.

The girl went in with a sore throat – the cause of the sore throat is unknown. That already was different that day. That’s already a possible other cause of death. There’s no evidence of an allergic reaction: she was sleepy, which is not really that, and the autopsy found no indication. And this is presented, although the autopsy does not support it, as if it was the vaccine. It’s unfortunate that no one told the family – or the network – that HPV vaccines have been studied in large scale studies in several countries, and no harms were causally connected to the vaccines besides fainting on the day of. That over 100 million doses were distributed world wide, and monitored by various government – and it was not linked by evidence to any deaths.

There’s a cost to claiming, against evidence, that a death was caused by the vaccine. The cost is that other parents may not vaccinate their children, and those children may suffer – in this case cancer and death.

Fox6, by the way you did this story, you have failed the children left exposed.

    • Heather

“But the way this story is set up is liable to lead to more tragedies: families leaving their children unprotected against HPV infections, people getting cancer or dying because of it – when the story really does not support the claim that it was the vaccine.” Actually, cervical cancer is a slow-growing and when detected early, very easy cancer to treat. Also, most women infected with HPV overcome it with their own immune system. So, what really should be advocated is regular pelvic exams and pap smears, not a vaccine that has damaging side effects. I swear, people think we were just put on this Earth a hundred years ago and need all these vaccines to protect us. We are weakening our bodies by injecting these toxic substances in our bodies. And sometimes the body attacks itself after the injection, leading to cases such as Meredith’s, or others who have become paralyzed, infertile, febrile, etc. At least FOX6 is bringing attention to the possible side effects of these vaccines and inspiring people to talk about it and do their research.

      • reissd

        A. Fact: tens of thousands of women get HPV related cancers and thousands die each year. Can the cancers be treated if discovered early? Yes. Often with great suffering and loss to the women treated. I’m not sure why that’s supposed to be a good result when we can prevent those cancers. Detection is important; prevention is better.

        B. 100 years ago infant mortality and other mortality was much higher. Vaccines don’t weaken our body: they work with our immune system to teach it to protect against a pathogen without the risks of the disease.

        C. There is no evidence the vaccine caused Meredith’s tragic death – if anything, there’s evidence against it: she was sick before the vaccine, and her reaction looks like illness. There’s no scientific or medical evidence that the vaccine causes paralysis, autoimmune diseases, and infertility. In fact, with large scale studies in hundreds of thousands of young women and monitoring of millions, the only side effect casually related to the vaccine is fainting on the day of.

        D. Presenting a story where the evidence does not support a casual connection to the vaccine as if there is such evidence is misleading your viewers. If a parent decides not to vaccinate a child because of this story, they have been misled to choose the greater risk for the child. Who speaks for the children left at risk of cancer and death? Clearly not Fox6Now with this misleading coverage.

Hi DORIT REISS. Looks like MERCK PHARMACEUTICALS is really worried if they sent you and your team in on this one! Why don’t you tell the good people here about the CRIMINAL LAWSUIT set for trial against MERCK in Spain:

June 19 2014, Logroño, Spain: Attorney Don Manuel Sáez Ochoa filed a criminal complaint against Merck-Sanofi Pasteur Laboratories, Spanish National Health authorities, and the regional health authorities of the La Rioja province on behalf of Zuriñe Jiménez Guereño and her mother Doña Maria del Carmen Jiménez Guereño for injuries and disabilities suffered by Zuriñe after the administration of Gardasil.
The complaint states that Merck Laboratories failed to use an inert placebo during clinical trials, thereby manipulating data and marketing Gardasil under false pretences. Despite complaints of several young women with similar new medical conditions after Gardasil injections, the Spanish health authorities ignored calls for a moratorium on the use of Gardasil until the safety issues were resolved.
Both regional and national health authorities made no attempt to verify the accuracy of the safety data Merck submitted to gain approval for the widespread administration of Gardasil as a cancer preventative; nor did they make any attempt to inform the public that an already proven safe and effective means of controlling cervical cancer was already in existence.
The complaint goes on to say both national and local health authorities had adequate knowledge regarding the potential harmful effects of Gardasil and chose to recommend administration of the HPV vaccine anyway. The complaint alleges this showed an absolute disregard for the health and well-being of young Spanish girls.
According to the complaint, the attitude of the Merck pharmaceutical company and Spanish health authorities (both national and regional) before, during and after the administration of Gardasil shows they care nothing about the risk to which medical consumers expose themselves whenever Gardasil is used.
The complaint states, prior to administration, no one was concerned about possible adverse reactions to the vaccine. When adverse reactions did occur, those who experienced them were treated with contempt leaving them in a state of helplessness. There was allegedly not one single official inquiry about the girls’ post-Gardasil conditions even though they were healthy prior to being injected with Gardasil.
An outcry from the public calling for a moratorium on the use of Gardasil until safety issues were resolved was ignored by Spanish health authorities. Injections of Gardasil continued despite the damage left behind.
According to Attorney Don Manuel Sáez Ochoa, (claiming) a possible exemption arguing that they did not know at the time of processing, the dangers of the vaccine (Gardasil) is laughable……Frankly this attitude seems clearly malicious and constitutes the offense of injury as per Artile 149.1 of the Criminal Code that states: To cause another, by any means or process, the loss or worthlessness of an organ or principal member, or a sense, impotence, sterility, severe deformity, or severe somatic or mental illness, shall be punished with imprisonment of six to twelve years.
Charges contained in the official criminal complaint
Merck-Sanofi Pasteur, Spain’s National and Regional (La Rioja) health authorities are charged with the following:
       fraudulent marketing and/or administration of an inadequately tested vaccine;
       failure to inform the public about the potential risks of using Gardasil;
       clear infringement of the right to informed consent;
       ignoring new medical conditions in those who used Gardasil despite the similarity of their symptoms and the relatively short period of time between vaccine administration and the onset of symptoms;
       ignoring established and new scientific evidence illustrating the potential harmful effects of Gardasil ingredients and manufacturing methods;
       callous disregard for those suffering new medical conditions post-Gardasil;
       failure to inform the public that HPV infections are simply one of the risk factors involved in the development of cervical cancer;
       failure to inform the public that 90% of all HPV infections clear on their own without medical intervention;
 failure to inform the publlic about alternative methods of controlling cervical cancer; and
 criminal liability for the injuries resulting from the administration of Gardasil
Even if one assumes that Merck-Sanofi Pasteur and all of the government health officials were not aware of the potential risks and lack of proven benefit of Gardasil, there has been plenty of scientific and medical evidence provided since 2007 when the vaccine was approved for use in Spain.
Given their expertise, all of these people were aware of the fact that there are several methods to control cervical cancer that have already been proven safe and effective.
Zuriñe was a healthy, athletic and academically gifted girl until she received the recommended three doses of Gardasil via an immunization program at her school when she was 13 years old. Three weeks later, she was admitted to the emergency room of her local hospital suffering from a multitude of symptoms including dizziness, fatigue and convulsions.
After receiving no answers from her doctors, the conversations began to include hints of conversion disorder. Her parents decided to take her to a private specialist.
According to this specialist, Dr. Mark Mazzuca: Zuriñe suffers severe cell disease, oxidative stress linked to a demineralization of her body. To put it graphically, she is an 18 year old girl locked in a cell body of a person over sixty years old. Zuriñe also suffers from hard infield Ortostátiaco Postural Syndrome polyneuropathy revealing a central character. It also presents as liver and bladder inflammation.
Five years after her last Gardasil shot, Zuriñe’s life bears little resemblance to anything she once considered normal. In and out of hospitals dealing with ‘mysterious’ new medical conditions every day. No one knows how much of her normal life she will be able to regain.
Thousands of young women around the world are finding themselves in the same position as Zuriñe. They have gone from being happy, active, and healthy to facing a multitude of autoimmune problems and neurological disorders. For them, the ‘possible’ adverse effects of Gardasil have become an all too harsh and brutal reality.
It is time for those responsible to be held accountable for their actions. Criminal prosecution is quite possibly the only way to accomplish that goal.
Perhaps six to twelve years in prison would remind those responsible what it means to conduct yourself in an ethical manner. Perhaps they would remember that their first duty is to maintain the public health, not destroy it.
On July 30, the Judge decided to open criminal proceedings and investigation of the facts. The first criminal case in Spain regarding Gardasil injuries and potential criminal liability begins.

        A. A private lawyer in Spain filed a criminal complaint full of anti-vaccine tropes. Anyone can file a criminal complaint, and many are investigated; but this is not a state-initiated criminal trial, or even any criminal trial: it’s a private complaint by someone representing a plaintiff claiming the vaccine harmed her. Like a civil suit here.

        B. I do not work for Merck. My only connection with them is as a customer. I would suggest that readers consider how much weight to give to the comments of someone who is unable to make his points without lying about other commentators.

    • MomInstinct

REISS: Let’s recap: you comment on every HPV story online. Clearly you have an agenda.
      A) in this instance, you argue that the HPV vaccine was not the cause. How do you know this to be true?
      B) you seem to protest too much. Perhaps you do know that this vaccine is in fact dangerous?

      • reissd

I’m not sure why commenting on article shows an agenda rather than caring. What’s your agenda, if that’s the case?

        A. See above. There was an autopsy. There’s no evidence the vaccine was a cause. The girl was sick before hand. The autopsy did not suggest an allergic reaction.

        B. If I don’t respond to unsupported, false claims that the vaccine is dangerous, they stand. If I do respond, I protest too much. Guess you can’t win with those determined to interpret things against you.

  • steve479

Serious adverse events from HPV vaccine are considerably more than all other vaccines. Do research and make an informed choice.
    From the FDA: http://www.fda.gov/downloads/BiologicsBloodVaccines/Vaccines/ApprovedProducts/UCM111263.pdf
    6.2 Postmarketing Experience
THE FOLLOWING ADVERSE EVENTS HAVE BEEN SPONTANEOUSLY REPORTED DURING POST-APPROVAL USE OF GARDASIL. Because these events were reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not possible to reliably estimate their frequency or to establish a causal relationship to vaccine exposure.
Blood and lymphatic system disorders: Autoimmune hemolytic anemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, lymphadenopathy. Respiratory, thoracic and mediastinal disorders: Pulmonary embolus. Gastrointestinal disorders: Nausea, pancreatitis, vomiting. General disorders and administration site conditions: Asthenia, chills, DEATH, fatigue, malaise. Immune system disorders: Autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions, bronchospasm, and urticaria. Musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders: Arthralgia, myalgia. Nervous system disorders: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, dizziness, Guillain-Barré syndrome, headache, motor neuron disease, paralysis, seizures, syncope (including syncope associated with tonic-clonic movements and other seizure-like activity) sometimes resulting in falling with injury, transverse myelitis. Infections and infestations: cellulitis. Vascular disorders: Deep venous thrombosis.

    • reissd

As your own source points out, there is no evidence that that list of things was caused by the vaccine. In a clinical trials that spans years and involves tens of thousands of women, it’s unrealistic to expect that they would have no medical problems. For example, the deaths investigated in that trial included car accident and overdose from drugs. They have to report everything that happens; but there’s no causal connection.

Large scale studies found no serious safety concerns with this vaccine. See the summary here: http://hpv.kegel.com/safety/

      • reissd

I obviously cannot speak to your specific case, and dealing with an autoimmune disease is horrible; I have a diabetic brother, and whatever the problem, you have my full sympathy.

But several large studies looked at whether the HPV vaccines cause autoimmune diseases. Studies in the U.S. and Scandinavia, with hundreds of thousands young women. No link was found. Unfortunately, with millions of girls vaccinated, it’s simply inevitable that some problems will emerge shortly after the vaccine. As natural as it is for the parents to believe it’s the vaccine, when studies find no different rates in the vaccinated girls compared to the general population or to unvaccinated girls – when the problems have the same frequency – the only conclusion is that the fact that this happened shortly after the vaccine is, probably, a coincidence.

      • Cathy

I am glad you can chose to ignore the thousands of girls that have had reactions to this shot, it must be nice to be able to bury your head in the sand. I am NOT against vaccines. I am against this one. I have watched my daughter have 100’s of seizures over the last six years, I have sat helpless as she continually stopped breathing during these seizures. I watched her sit in her room and cry day after day because she was afraid to go anywhere, because for two years of her life (15-17) she had seizures almost daily. And, I am thankful that you have not had to go through anything like this, and you can say with all certainty that this shot has not caused these health problems for the thousands of girls who were perfectly healthy before the shot and after there life will never be the same. Is it going to effect every girl, of course not. But who wants to play Russian Roulette with their daughters lives. We were once told that she was predisposed to having a reaction. Not a chance I would be willing to take again. She is 21 years old and I still have to watch her cry when things get bad!! It is heartbreaking for a parent.

      • reissd

@Cathy: I am sorry to hear your daughter is suffering so.
But the claims of girls like your daughter are not ignored. That’s why large scale studies were conducted. In the U.S. and in Scandinavia. Looking at hundreds of thousands of girls and asking, do girls who get HPV vaccines have higher rates of these problems than girls who did not get the HPV vaccines, or than the general rate in the population before the vaccine was used? The answer is a resounding no. These problems are not more common after the vaccine.

When scientists looked and found that these problems happen with or without the vaccine, saying it’s the vaccine is problematic. Again: not because we ignore the problem. Not because anyone wants to downplay the tragedy. But because the evidence does not support a connection to the vaccine.

I have no doubt that this is painful to hear to someone who believes it’s the vaccine, but it’s the truth: with millions of girls vaccinated, and these problems happening in a percentage of the populations, for some girls it will happen shortly after the vaccine. It’s inevitable.

But blaming the vaccine has a cost: it can deter others from protecting their children. It’s really, really tragic when harm happens to a young girl. Vaccine or not. But when a young girl’s harm is then used to scare others from protecting their children against this infection that can cause cancer or kill – and with no good evidence it was in fact the vaccine – we get more preventable cancers and deaths. That doubles the tragedy.

Attacking HPV vaccines based on stories that are against the evidence is an injustice to those that will suffer preventable HPV infections because those stories scared their parents from protecting them. They deserve better.

You mean like the speculation you’re doing in saying that it wasn’t the vaccine?

You should be ashamed of yourself!

      • Eric Somers

I’ve re-read Chris Hickie’s comment, and I don’t see any speculation made, but rather a statement that speculation was wrong, given the evidence (or lack of) from the autopsy.

      • lielady RN, BSC, Epidemiologist, MD, PhD, DoD, CDC, FDA, On-A-Stick

You mean other than the fact that he’s mentioned in these comments (along with others) that it couldn’t be the vaccine. He did this, mind you, without any evidence.

You mean that speculation? It’s ok when we do it, though, because I’m a nurse, and he’s a doctor, and we worship Science!

My deepest and heartfelt condolences to this family for this horrible and shocking tragedy.
I’m so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter. My heart breaks for you. :(

Ever have surgery for HPV-caused Cancer? It’s not fun. I never had any symptoms. My children are vaccinated. I also shake my head at hubby every year when he suffers from influenza and I don’t. Do what you wish and leave everyone else alone, unless they ask your opinion.

    • Jen

Maybe your husband needs a healthier diet to combat the flu. I used to get flu shots and got the flu every time. Stopped them 5 years ago and havent had the flu since. And I work with preschool kids.

    • reissd

I’m sorry to hear your husband gets the flu. Maybe he’ll come around; imperfect as the flu vaccine is, the 60% or so protection it provides (with additional protection against a severe disease) is a lot higher than the zero of not vaccinating. And there really isn’t any alternative to it in terms of preventing flu.

  • Tiffany

Vaccines don’t make you sleepy, I never heard of sleepiness as an adverse reaction to a vaccine. If your daughter was feeling unusually sleepy after a shot, why would would you wait for hours and then go get something to eat? Something doesn’t add up here.

      • reissd

This was a reference to the sleepiness in this story, and Tiffany is right. No one claimed this girl had narcolepsy, and the only vaccine associated with narcolepsy is the version of H1N1 vaccine used in Europe.

      • LIELADY RN, BSC, EPIDEMIOLOGIST, MD, PHD, DOD, CDC, FDA, ON-A-STICK

One of the things I read in nursing school says that things should be taken as literally as possible. You’d know this if you were a nurse, like I am. You should know I’m a nurse, because I just told you.

However, she said that vaccines don’t make you sleepy. I provided evidence that they can.

Since you’re not a nurse, like I am, then clearly you must not know that narcolepsy makes you sleepy.

“The only thing different that day was the shot”

Yet this child went to the doctors with a sore throat. She wanted to sleep all afternoon, developed a fever and vomited. It sounds like this child was developing something before she had her HPV vaccination. The cause of death possibilities are limitless
without further investigation. Examination of the brain might provide some clues. The heart might also hold some answers. It’s a shame the doctor vaccinated her when she was something else was clearly going on, and her cause of death is being muddied by people here who are jumping to conclusions. There is no evidence that the vaccine was the cause of this and to conclude otherwise is foolish. Shame on you Fox6 for leading the audience and for providing false balance in an anecdote. The HPV vaccine has never been known to cause that combination of symptoms and is unfairly copping the blame here. I am truly sorry for this family’s loss but jumping to conclusions without evidence is more harmful to everybody involved. This is not how you do vaccine safety advocacy.

    • Cathy

I think you need to do a little research, there are thousands of girls who have had that exact combination of symptoms. Try ThetruthaboutGardasil.org and you can hear right from the girls or are you one of those people that only like to hear the side of story that you want to believe!!

Smallpox. Responsible for as many as 300 million deaths in the 20th century. Far more destructive than all our wars combined.
Polio. 1952. Nearly 60,000 cases in the U.S. alone. 3,145 dead and 21,269 disabled.
One eradicated. One only exists where they aren’t vaccinating.
I will be vaccinating my children. Even if the worst case scenarios painted by the anti-vax movement were true, we still come out ahead.

A year and a half ago, my oldest daughter got the shot. She passed out after getting it, went into convulsions and turned blue. I was so scared we were going to lose her. Now she passes out easily, has numbness in her arms and legs without any explanation. She has had EMG, ENG, MRI and Cat Scans and nothing has given us the answer to why she has these issues. I worry about her so much. She is not allowed to do things she used to be able to do. She doesn’t do anything that will throw her equilibrium off, like ride fast spinning rides. All my children are precious to me, but I worry about her the most because she has severe headaches that she has to take meds for. The only explanation that we have been given is that she is possibly hypoglycemic. (but all this came on after she got the shot!) We still have to have the blood sugar testing done…but other than that, we have no answers, or any way of treating her symptoms other than the headaches. She is an honors student, but she has an IEP because of her headaches, she has to have textbooks. She can not just do her work on the computer. When her headaches get too bad she has to rest because she gets double vision and she now also has a lazy eye that acts up when she has headaches. All this since she has had the shot. None of my other children will ever receive that shot! I don’t recommend it for anyone!!!

    • Cathy

My daughter has many of the symptoms you are describing, along with seizures. This all started the day after her shot, it has beed six years and still no answers. I just love how there are thousands of girls going through this, starting right after the shot and people still have the nerve to say that there is no proof that it has anything to do with the shot. Really people wake up!!! It has everything to do with the shot.

Where exactly did you get this information. Yes, there are risks to vaccines, however how exactly do you connect them to the outcomes? Just because someone says a vaccine killed someone, does not make it true. Seems as if you think they should go back to “blood letting.” Overall, vaccines save many more lives than they end.

  • K

The people commenting on this page are worse than the article. You people are acting as if this is some kind of regular, common occurrence. As if the doctors just walk into work every morning and spin a big wheel of hypodermics to decide what to administer to each patient. It doesn’t work that way. These are trained professionals, with years of experience. When it comes to deciding what is and is not safe to put into the human body, they are in a much higher position to make that call than you are. Yes, there are some rare cases of serious adverse reactions; but these cases are so few and far-between, they hardly even deserve to be counted as statistics.
These things happen. It’s unfortunate, yes; but in perspective to the amount of lives these vaccines save, this pales in comparison. You don’t just oppose a treatment with a 99.999% success rate because you can’t read into a topic past a Hallmark teenage tragedy mini-article that plays off medical scientists as villainous entities from the Planet of Doom, fueled by drinking glowing vials of baby tears and kitten blood.

“Professor Dorit Rubinstein Reiss is quickly becoming the nation’s foremost legal expert about the potential for tort liability for parents who choose not to vaccinate their children. In addition to running her own blog on the subject, Before Vaccines, Professor Reiss has penned multiple Op-Eds and articles about the dangers of choosing not to vaccinate. Her latest piece in the Recorder discusses California’s new bill AB2109, which goes into effect January 2014, and changes the requirements for parents who want to utilize California’s personal belief exemption and send their children to school without the required childhood immunizations”

WoW !!! Dorit Reiss is a law professor employed by UCHASTINGS Law School who is associated with KAISER who is funded by a mix of MERCK Pharma and the CDC, with the FDA holding patents on the HPV Vaccine. Thank you for telling us that Dorit Reiss is involved in writing public policy for forcefully vaccinating everything that moves so that the U. S. Government and governments around the word will have to buy BILLIONS OF DOLLARS worth of questionable vaccines that we still don’t know all the problems with. This is a real wake-up call for me. I knew Dorit Reiss just wasn’t a concerned mother, but I never expected her to stoop so low as to come on to a discussion about a child dyeing, and try to sell her vaccine agenda. Thank you ANTIOCHUS, whomever you really are.

Since my identity is not a secret, and you knew about it, this rings, well, unconvincing. You’re also wrong:
        A. As most people know, Kaiser is an HMO. Their research center gets grants from a variety of sources, but Kaiser is not funded by Merck and the CDC. And if anything, their interest as an HMO is to minimize costs.
        B. The idea that an academic collaboration between UCSF and UC Hastings is equivalent to financial ties is interesting, if not very logical.
        C. Suggesting that people who do not vaccinate should pay if their actions cause harms is not the same as arguing for mandating vaccines. In fact, it’s the opposite. It assumes people have a right not to vaccinate; but it requires them to take personal responsibility if their actions harm others.
        D. I am sorry that you approve of the use of this child’s tragic death – a death that no evidence connects to the vaccine – to deter people from protecting their children against an infection that causes cancer.
That is not going to stop me, however, from pointing out the fact and providing accurate sources on HPV vaccines.
Abundant medical and scientific evidence shows their safety.

      • Anti-Vaccine Liberals

Yeah those of us who have dealt with this amoral corporate shill who whores herself out for Big pHARMa every chance she gets, is nothing but a heartless automaton (because with the number of posts & comments she makes on anti-vaccine articles, blogs, posts, and FB pages, and the sheer speed rate of her responses shows that it is NOT humanly possible for “Dorit” to be just one person — it definitely has to be either an auto-bot responding, or a team of paid shills like her) with clichéd sympathy and biased propaganda! (even Hitler, another staunch supporter of vaccines, would, regardless of his views on race, still be proud of little Dorit’s propaganda spewing!)

      • Eric Somers

What is with the AV love affair with RANDOM capitalization in SENTENCES?

I find it very difficult to give serious credence to an argument that relies on schoolyard name calling (pHARMa? prOFFIT? really? aren’t we the clever little child), or personal attacks.
I have seen numerous posts by REISSD that appear to be very calm in tone, all whist suffering personal attacks and horrible name calling (whore? really?) from opponents. If the best the vaccine opponents can provide is attacks against the messenger, rather than the message, they are only giving more credence to the message.

My daughter is a 7 year Gardasil victim. Our lives were forever changed when I agreed for my daughter to receive this series of vaccines. She has suffered tingles, dizziness, pain in her joints that keeps her up at night, rashes and hives, hair loss, temporary blindness and periods of unawareness that can happen 4-5 times a day and last 20-90 minutes at a time. During these episodes she has no idea where she is, what her name is, or who her family and friends are. We have seen countless number of specialists and while her neurologist does attribute this to Gardasil there are no answers or cures and we have been told that this autoimmune disorder will now be a lifelong sentence. This is a poison and not a single day goes by that I do not wish I could go back in time and refuse. Please, please, please don’t just trust your doctor with Gardasil information, do the research before making any decisions. Gardasil is too new and they do not have the safety research they need to justifiably claim this vaccine is safe. My daughter, along with thousands of others, was made a Gardasil guinea pig.

  • Cathy

I don’t care what the studies show, for myself, my daughter and ALL the other families living through the nightmare of this shot, it has been HELL. Your studies do not take away our pain. Most of these girls were perfectly healthy before the shot, their lives will be forever changed because of the shot, coincidence, I don’t think so, it’s the fact that we all live with. I will say once again I AM NOT ANTIVACCINE, I would just like someone with common decency to step up and do the right thing so that no more young people have to live through this.

  • reissd

Consider this careful analysis, explaining why we need to be cautious from uncritically accepting stories of vaccine injuries – because the price is too high: children left unprotected against diseases that can kill and harm them.

    http://www.voicesforvaccines.org/vaccine-injury-stories-the-sacred-cows-of-the-internet/

“Only after reports have been medically analyzed can they be confirmed as real vaccine injuries, and these cases contribute to official vaccine statistics as legitimate risk of reactions.

A recent study of VAERS data shows that less than 3% of adverse reaction reports from vaccines are actually found to be related to the vaccine. Further, when the data of these verified vaccine reactions were analyzed, the majority of them were of a minor nature such as a low grade fever or soreness at the site of injection. When you do the real numbers, the risk of serious vaccine injury is orders of magnitude less than 1%.

Some of the vaccine injury stories I encountered were downright impossible. For example, SIDS and Shaken Baby Syndrome were being blamed on vaccines, when in fact a meta analysis of the medical literature shows that immunizations are actually associated with halving the risk of SIDS. And Shaken Baby syndrome is an abusive head trauma, not a vaccine injury.

Actually, most of the vaccine injuries commonly discussed by vaccine critics had absolutely no connection to immunizations other than coincidental timing with the administration of the vaccine. For example, I read about parents who believed that pneumonia, a middle ear infection, a cough or cold, eczema, asthma, autism, epilepsy, and other unrelated conditions were “vaccine injuries” simply because their child had one of these things happen or diagnosed around the same time as their jabs. One woman was convinced that a flu shot gave her endometriosis. Impossible.

Then there are a collection of reports known as the “Gardasil Girls.” Their alleged injuries range from ovarian failure, neurological conditions, meningitis, chronic fatigue, pulmonary embolism, influenza, chronic Lyme’s disease morphing into a vaccine injury and death. But there is no medical evidence that these are caused by the vaccine. However, there is a mountain of scientific evidence demonstrating the safety of the HPV vaccine. With more than 50 million doses having been given worldwide with very close safety monitoring, we know that this vaccine is safe.

In fact, when you review the evidence, the rates of major events of concern, namely Guillain-Barre syndrome, autoimmune disorders, transverse myelitis, and death, were all exceedingly rare, and not above what one would expect to occur in the normal unvaccinated population. Gardasil does not cause premature ovarian failure.”

*** EVERY DRUG THAT HAS EVER BEEN RECALLED, HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE BY THE FDA, WHO JUST HAPPENS TO HOLD PATENTS FOR THE GARDASIL HPV VACCINE. ***

MERCK, the $134 Billion Dollar pharmaceutical company that was found GUILTY in a court of law for causing 27,000 HEART ATTACKS with another defective drug (VIOXX), now brings you the GARDASIL HPV Vaccine for your child.
Do you really want to trust MERK and their paid shill, Dorit Reiss (REISSD), with your child’s life?

P.S. The CEO of MERCK is a $15 Million Dollar a year attorney named KENNETH FRAZIER. He is NOT a doctor. Atty Kenneth Frazier is the same attorney that worked with EXXON-MOBIL, and played a key role in downplaying the damage done by the EXXON VALDEZ oil tanker, which spilled crude oil in and on the Alaskan coastline, waters, and wildlife. Attorney Kenneth Frazier and Law Professor Dorit Reiss are telling you that the Gardasil vaccine is safe. How far can you trust a lawyer whose salary and bonuses depend on drugs they sell?

      • L. Vincent Jr

Truth hurts, doesn’t it. If you’re admitting that you get paid (a.k.a. bonus) for stalking the parents of dead and injured children on blogs that show the dangers of the defective Gardasil Vaccine, I guess I’m correct in classifying you as a shill and a stalker. You know way too much, but your concepts are misguided.

      • reissd

It’s both sad and ironic that Mr. Vincent is so misguided that he believes that people who know about vaccines have to be paid – as if people cannot be just well informed – and that he sees commenting in public forums as stalking. It shows his lack of understanding of those terms and his inability to support his position on substantive grounds.

    • reissd

Recalls are a sign the system works. If a problem is discovered in a drug previously thought safe, we want it recalled and removed from the market, rather than left to cause harm. It’s another layer of safety regulation, because nothing is 100% safe. We have multiple layers to assure safety, some before market and some after. To remind you, in addition to drugs we have recalls of spinach, cars, tomatoes and meat. Doesn’t mean those things are inherently unsafe – it means that sometimes problems pop up.

I’m sorry you dislike capitalism. I’m not paid by Merck – in fact, the money flows the other way: I’m a customer – but I appreciate having a company that makes lifesaving vaccines and medicine, imperfect as it is. I also appreciate having a system in place to regulate that company and prevent abuses, and having many, many researchers in universities all over the world researching vaccine safety. Thanks to this information that comes from all over the world, different independent sources that do research, we can say with confidence that serious problems from vaccines, while real, are very rare.
And in the context of HPV we can point out that studies from all around the world show the vaccine to be very, very safe.

  • L. Vincent

REISSD (real name: Dorit Reiss) writes:
“…. C. Suggesting that people who do not vaccinate should pay if their actions cause harms is not the same as arguing for mandating vaccines. In fact, it’s the opposite. It assumes people have a right not to vaccinate; but it requires them to take personal responsibility if their actions harm others. ……”

QUESTION FOR REISSD: Why did pharmaceutical companies pay for laws to be passed to make them EXEMPT FROM PROSECUTION when a child dies or is injured from their defective vaccines?

    • reissd

      A. The pharmaceutical are not exempt from criminal prosecution if a criminal charge can be brought against them. There’s no law like that.
      B. Under the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, passed by Congress with the support of the National Vaccine Information Center, an anti-vaccine organization, manufacturers are protected from some liability, though not all. Bruesewitz v. Wyeth (2011) interpret the act to bar design defect suits, but not manufacturing defect.
In return those with vaccine injuries got a plaintiff-friendly, no-fault program to help handle their cases. There’s no evidence of corruption: the law was passed because manufacturers were leaving the market because of baseless law suits. It’s a compromise.

      • L. Vincent

Are you telling me that because the HPV16-L1 MY-09 and MY-11 Consensus Primers in autopsy tissue samples from two deceased teenage girls was found to be mutated after they received the Gardasil HPV vaccine, that this is a “design defect”, and not a culpable manufacturing defect, and MERCK can’t be sued for a defective vaccine?

      • Mike Stevens

L Vincent, you fail to comprehend what “primers” are.
The cases you refer to did not show HPV virus mutating following vaccination.
The HPV vaccine does not even consist of the HPV genome, but fragments of recombinant HPV coat proteins.

      • L. Vincent Jr

If you say that the GARDASIL Vaccine mutation does not take place in the host, you are then admitting that MERCK makes a defective vaccine, just like the cancer contaminated SV40 virus tainted Polio vaccine that was given to 63,000,000 Americans in the late 1950s and early 60s, “for the greater good.” That is exactly what researchers and geneticists have been saying and have proven: The GARDASIL HPV VACCINE IS DEFECTIVE AND CONTAMINATED. Thank you MIKE STEVENS, a.k.a.Dorit Reiss & Co., for clarifying this issue of a defective vaccine.

  • MomInstinct

My daughter was harmed by this vaccine.
Others (REISSD) obviously have an agenda for posting on every news or online story about this subject.
My daughter has suffered for years from this vaccine.
    Please be careful.

  • reissd

Here is a sensitive, thoughtful post explaining why we need to be very careful when we come across anecdotal stories of vaccine injuries. Leaving our children exposed to dangerous diseases is taking a risk. Doing it without evidence or against the evidence is problematic. http://www.voicesforvaccines.org/vaccine-injury-stories-the-sacred-cows-of-the-internet/
“So this is what I think now: We should politely ask questions whenever we hear or read about a vaccine injury story. We need evidence that the harm truly came from the vaccine, especially if the story comes with a warning that you should not vaccinate your own child.

In many cases it becomes immediately clear that something else could explain it. When it comes to a complex medical situation, doctors and other experts are the ones to turn to for an explanation. And when I’ve had an expert explain them to me, I can honestly say that I have not encountered more than a handful of stories that could not be explained by a far more likely condition or scenario.

So why would a parent still cling to a belief when the medical science concludes otherwise? Perhaps because the emotion surrounding the event cements the conviction firmly in their mind and it’s hard to undo a thought process where emotion overrules logic.

People who don’t have a real vaccine injury and spread myths about them do a great disservice to real vaccine safety advocates; the people who’ve had real vaccine reactions. They undo the good work that people like David Salamone’s father, John, have done. John was instrumental in lobbying the US government to switch from oral to injectable polio vaccine. He still recommends vaccines and recognizes his son’s reaction is a very rare event.

We cannot be expected to accept vaccine injury stories without a reasonable explanation of the mechanism of harm. If you think we should accept all stories at face value, I’m afraid you’re missing the mark as vaccine safety advocates.”

  • Madd

This vaccine is so unsafe that Japan took it off their recommended schedule after so many adverse reactions were reported–this was reported in US FINANCIAL news (due to concerns about stock price), but nothing negative about vaccines will ever make the mainstream news in the US (and every other ad is for a pharmaceutical company, so you can’t expect networks to bite the hand that feeds them). There are lawsuits in European countries over injuries from this drug as well (in the US, you can’t sue a vaccine manufacturer). Even one of the creators of this vaccine was on the Katie Couric show and said regular pap smears are more effective and more safe than this drug, and she envisioned this drug being used in developing countries without access to regular pap smears. Sadly I’m not at all surprised by this death. Also, you should NEVER get a vaccine when you are not feeling well–health care providers should know this. This poor girl should NOT have had a shot when she had a sore throat, and her doctors absolutely should have known this. We put way too much faith in doctors and the medical establishment. Sadly,I suspect this will be chalked up as another coincidence.

  • Sheila Vives

Was there any consideration that the organs and tissues were contaminated with the vaccine components before donating ? Sorry for yet another tragic loss. Too often death from vaccine reactions are listed as “inconclusive”. We need to get to the bottom of why this particular vaccine is causing so much death and for girls to faint.
