66-year-old man is dead after he had to be rescued from a boat in Racine Sunday morning

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say a man is dead after he had to be rescued from a fishing boat on Sunday morning, August 10th.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office on Sunday morning -- just before 9:30 a.m. received a call that a 19-foot fishing boat needed help. Passengers on board the boat informed Sheriff's officials that a man on board was unconscious, and was having a heart attack.

Those on board the boat were giving the man CPR.

Sheriff's officials say the boat was six miles out when the call came in -- and the boat was headed back to the 5th Street boat launch for help.

Rescue officials made contact with the boat two miles out -- and additional crews were stationed on land.

"As soon as I crossed the road I saw the ambulance and the fire truck down there and I was out there probably five to 10 minutes out there with the dog, walking and they were there the whole time -- and they were there quite awhile afterwards," Dorothy Schuerman, who saw the rescue said.

The 66-year-old man was taken to the hospital -- where he was pronounced dead. The man is from East Troy, Wisconsin.

We're told the man had a diabetic medical history.

The man's identity hasn't yet been released -- pending notification of family.
