Crane strikes bridge, leads to lane closures on southbound I-43

GLENDALE (WITI) -- Just one lane was open on I-43 SB at Green Tree Road after a crane struck a bridge. The Green Tree Bridge was also shut down.

A Milwaukee County Sheriff's spokeswoman tells FOX6 News around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 13th, the crane struck the Green Tree Bridge over I-43 -- knocking down a large chunk of concrete from the bridge, and sending debris onto the roadway.

Sheriff's deputies shut down two lanes of I-43, and the Good Hope Road on-ramp. They remained closed as of 7:45 p.m. Wednesday -- and they were set to stay closed until the truck that was involved in this incident was cleared.

Bridge inspectors were called to the scene to assess the damage to the bridge. The inspectors ruled the bridge safe.

Green Tree Road was then reopened to traffic.

No injuries were reported.
