"When you see it, you're like this is not real:" Surveillance video captured during hit-and-run

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Two cars crashed into a Milwaukee Cricket Wireless store over the weekend. Monday, October 20th, FOX6 News obtained the surveillance video of it happening.

Information is still coming in, partially because of the unique circumstances behind this case.

Police say the 21-year-old who caused the crash initially ran from the scene, only to turn himself in about 9 hours later.

FOX6 News also knows now, there were 2 others in that car, who also ran.

Pay close attention to the bottom left side of the screen when watching the video. It's a car slamming through a plate glass window, ending up inside the Crickett Wireless store on 6th and Mitchell.

"When you see it for the first time, you're like this is not real. When you look at it, you're like how did it happen," said Deitrich Glenn, store market manager.

Milwaukee Police say it happened when a red Acura flew through a red light, and collided with a Toyota -- and sent that Toyota through the window of the store.

"What really surprised me is that it's kind of hard to really come into the store, the way it's set up, they layout, but when I seen it I said I hope nobody's hurt," said Glenn.

Police say there were injuries, but nothing fatal. A 36-year-old passenger of the Toyota sustained serious injuries, as did the 21-year-old driver of the Acura.

Police say despite those injuries, he ran from the scene only to turn himself in Sunday afternoon.

Looking at the damage Monday afternoon, the realization of what happened is starting to sink in for Glenn.

"It's probably going to take somewhere close to 3 weeks in order to fix the glass and everything," Glenn said.

Along with some concern, less than 2 days before this, they had another close call on the same corner.

"On Friday there was a situation where two cars kind of missed each other and we're like wow they could have ended up in the building just seconds from missing each other. And we kind of joked it off," said Glenn.

Now that it's happened, the joking has stopped.

The store is open with their normal hours.

Tomorrow the case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for possible charges of hit-and-run causing great bodily harm, and operating after suspension causing great bodily harm.

There were 2 other occupants in the Acura that also ran -- police say they have been identified.
