Medical Examiner's Office needs help locating family of homeless man found dead in lagoon

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has released its report on a homeless man found dead in a lagoon last week.

The Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man as 62-year-old Claudio Santos Nila. He was found face down in the Kosciuszko Park lagoon last Monday morning, October 27th. His cause of death has been ruled freshwater drowning, and the death has been ruled an accident.

Nila's body was discovered by a jogger, who then approached another man in the park who had a cell phone, and 911 was called.

The Medical Examiner's report says Nila was homeless, and normally lived under the bridge near 4th and Becher.

Investigators spoke with a woman who lives across the street from Kosciuszko Park, who stated she observed Nila, whom the Medical Examiner's report says was an alcoholic, staggering in the park -- saying she last saw him the night before his body was found.

A bag filled with cans of beer was discovered near Nila's body.

The Medical Examiner's report says Nila had no known family in the Milwaukee area. The report says Nila was originally from a providence in Mexico called Oaxaca.

Investigators are working to locate Nila's family.
