Milwaukee police on the hunt for sexual assault suspect
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police believe they have identified the suspect responsible for an attempted sexual assault that happened in the 3000 block of N. Bremen on Friday, December 12th.
A 25-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk when the suspect forced her into a small park and attempted to rape her. The suspect struck the victim several times when she resisted him -- he fled when the victim screamed.
"My husband and I heard like blood curdling screams," said Shanette Fails, helped victim.
Fails caught just a fleeting glimpse of the suspect. He was about 5-foot-8, and wearing all black.
"He shot off and jumped this gate right here, and we lost sight of him. I took the young lady in and nursed her and called 911," said Fails.
The victim was injured.
"She was in terrible condition. Her front teeth had been knocked out of her mouth, she received a huge gash to the back of her head. Her shoulder was dislocated, and a lot of physical trauma, she was bleeding profusely, she lost a lot of blood. He was attempting to rape her, her pants were down," said Fails.
Fails has posted signs all around the neighborhood saying "Heads Up" warning of the attempted rape.
Colleen Miszewski lives nearby, she says she'll think twice before walking alone at night.
"I think it's disgusting. Women don't deserve to get attacked," said Miszewski.
Milwaukee police are investigating a possible connection to other sexual assaults on the city's north side.
"From what I've hear this guy is serial. This wasn't his first time and probably won't be his last," said Fails.
Fails says she's spoken to the victim, who is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.
Fails says despite the ordeal, she is in good spirits.
While this is the only assault reported in this neighborhood, Milwaukee police are investigating whether it is connected to other sexual assaults that have happened over the past several months on Milwaukee's north side.
Officers are currently seeking the suspect.
