"Get your cameras fixed:" Robbed outside Midtown Pick 'n Save, victim upset surveillance video was blurry

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee woman was robbed at gunpoint in the Midtown Center Pick 'n Save's parking lot on West Capitol Drive. She hoped surveillance video would help police identify and apprehend those responsible -- but she says she was upset to learn that video was blurry.

The woman victimized in this case says she wants others to know about what she feels are serious safety concerns -- warning that no one should let their guard down just because their might be surveillance cameras around.

The woman is still so shaken up by what happened, she has asked that FOX6 News protect her identity.

It was supposed to be a quick stop for groceries at the Pick 'n Save store on West Capitol Drive.

"It happened so fast I didn`t even have time to scream. I came out, was rolling my cart to my car. I was putting my groceries in the trunk. I saw two boys coming toward me. The one started talking to me. He said 'I don`t want to have to shoot you. Give me your purse. Hurry up,' so I did as he said and I certainly -- I didn't want to be shot," the woman said.

Terrified, the woman called 911 as a witness flagged down a police officer. The woman says she and an officer went into the store -- hoping that parking lot surveillance cameras captured a clear image of the suspects.

"The police came and they were trying to look at the video , but you couldn`t see anything. The police officer said 'is this as good as you can make it?' He said 'yes -- I've told them about it,'" the woman said.

The victim says the surveillance video was blurry.

"We found out the cameras weren`t working. I talked to corporate the head of security of the Pick 'n Save. He acknowledged that the cameras were out of focus," the woman said.

Roundy's (Pick 'n Save's parent company) VP of Communications says there was condensation on the lens and the clarity wasn't 100%. Roundy's is aware of the incident, and is taking a look at security measures -- and they'll be making any necessary adjustments.

"Get your cameras fixed. Get some better lighting out here," the woman said.

The property management group defended lighting on the property -- saying:  "Parking lot and sidewalk canopy lighting is considered adequate.  Lights are checked daily and inspected by the shopping centers lighting contractor regularly."

The suspects in this case were able to get away. Milwaukee police are actively searching for them.

Meanwhile, the victim says she hasn't been able to carry a purse since the incident.
