Milwaukee police seek suspects in shooting just south of Sherman & Villard

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police seek suspects responsible for a shooting that happened on a sidewalk near Sherman Blvd. and Lancaster Ave. (just south of Villard) on the city's north side.

Police responded to the neighborhood around 10:45 a.m. They found a 24-year-old Milwaukee man who was shot and wounded.

"Plenty of police, gun shot casings, you know, a whole bunch of bull," said Dante Hunter, who lives in the neighborhood.

"Thought I heard somebody knocking on my window and so I jumped up and I said who is it and my aunt was like they shooting. I got up and looked out the window," said Christina Young, who lives in the neighborhood.

Police say the victim of the shooting  ran across the street toward a nearby school, the Barack Obama School of Career and Technical Education. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening wounds.

Police say the shooting did not involved anyone from the school -- and a lockdown there happened as a precaution.

The MPS media manager said in a statement, "Today we modified the school schedule because of a community incident that was not connected to the school. All of our students are safe and we took the steps we did as a precaution because the safety of our children is our highest priority."

By noon, parents were seen entering and exiting the school without issue.
