New family for Neno: Milwaukee police detective adopts dog that suffered extreme abuse

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Police Detective Jon Charles has given new hope to a six-month-old puppy -- for a second time.

Neno was rescued by the Milwaukee Police Department on February 3rd from horrible abuse. The dog was severely emaciated and suffering from urine scalding on his skin, raw and bleeding paw pads, and painful sores on his legs. Neno could not open his mouth, likely because of muscle atrophy from injuries consistent with having his mouth bound shut for long periods of time.

Detective Charles was there during the initial seizure of Neno, as well as during the subsequent arrest of Neno’s owner. Over the course of Neno’s stay at the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, several Milwaukee police officers regularly stopped by to play fetch with Neno and check up on him.

Detective Charles grew attached to Neno -- and three weeks later, after being transferred to the Wisconsin Humane Society for placement, Charles adopted Neno.
