Police look for clues in two hit-and-run incidents; one fatal, one involving serious injuries
WEST MILWAUKEE/MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Investigators in two Milwaukee-area jurisdictions are investigating separate hit-and-run incidents. One occurred late Tuesday night, March 24th, and the other occurred early Wednesday morning. There is now an ongoing search for suspects and witnesses.
Both Milwaukee police and West Milwaukee police are asking for help in two separate hit-and-run investigations. One involves a victim with serious injuries. In the other incident, a man lost his life.
The first incident occurred in West Milwaukee just after 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. West Milwaukee police say a 34-year-old man was struck by a vehicle in the 5500 block of West National Avenue.
West Milwaukee Police Chief Dennis Nasci says the victim was in an area establishment prior to the incident, and he started to walk across the street.
"It didn't appear to be a crosswalk. Met up with another individual kinda mid-way in the road. I'm not sure what was really going on there, and then he turned, took a couple steps right in front of a car," Chief Nasci said.
The man received serious injuries and was conveyed by the Milwaukee Fire Department to Froedtert Hospital.
The striking vehicle fled the scene westbound on W. National Avenue. Witnesses describe the suspect vehicle as a dark colored, four door sedan. No license plate number was obtained. The striking vehicle should have front end damage, with possible damage to the hood and windshield.
"It appears that somebody in an SUV-style vehicle was behind the striking vehicle, and they did not stop. They did not wait for us to arrive on scene, Chief Nasci said.
Chief Nasci says surveillance video indicates a bus was also nearby when this incident occurred. Investigators have contacted the bus company.
A 61-year-old Milwaukee man was killed in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Milwaukee's northwest side early Wednesday morning. It happened near N. 91st St. and Fond du Lac Ave. around 5:40 a.m.
Police say the man was walking westbound across N. 91st Street when a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed hit the victim. The vehicle, an older model blue minivan, stopped for a brief time but then fled from the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Milwaukee Police Department spokesman tells FOX6 News the striking vehicle has been located in this case, but the driver has not.
Cheryl Lightholder says the victim was Aden Durow, an employee at Milwaukee's James Wright Goodwill facility.
"It's been very traumatic. There's a lot of grief. He was a very kind man. He was a very hard worker. He was -- he had a good sense of humor, and he was well-respected. He had gotten off the bus. He was on his way to work. He starts at 6:00," Lightholder, Goodwill Manager of Communications said.
