Busted: ShotSpotter technology leads officers to suspect, gun in grill

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Police officers arrested a twice-convicted felon after the suspect allegedly fired shots into the air on Milwaukee’s west side on Sunday, May 3rd.

Officers responded to the neighborhood near 34th and Clarke just after 2 a.m.  for a report of shots fired. It was triggered by ShotSpotter technology. The officers on patrol saw a man who they believed to be responsible for shooting a gun and took him into custody. They also found a handgun hidden inside of a small charcoal grill near where the arrest took place.

The suspect arrested, a 28-year-old Milwaukee man, is a twice-convicted felon with a criminal record dating back to 2005.

MPD will present charges of felon in possession of a firearm to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
