Officer on leave after video shows him restraining girl, pulling gun on teens at pool party

MCKINNEY, Texas -- A police officer in McKinney, Texas has been placed on administrative leave and an investigation is underway after video surfaced online showing the officer responding to a disturbance at a pool party.

CBS11 reports neighbors called police on Friday evening, June 5th to report multiple juveniles at a home who apparently didn't live in the area or have permission to be there, and they were apparently refusing to leave.

Multiple witnesses told CBS11 a fight broke out involving juveniles and adults.

When officers arrived on scene, McKinney police say there was a large crowd of people refusing to comply with officers.

Video taken at the scene shows an officer yelling at several teenagers -- ordering them to get to the ground, and for others to leave the area.

The video you'll see just below was posted to YouTube on Saturday, June 6th by Brandon Brooks with the following description: "A fight between a mom and a girl broke out and when the cops showed up everyone ran, including the people who didn't do anything. So the cops just started putting everyone on the ground and in handcuffs for no reason. This kind of force is uncalled for especially on children and innocent bystanders."

WARNING: The seven-minute video includes very strong language and you may find it disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised.

Witnesses told CBS11 News a girl who is apparently 14 years old didn't walk away, and told the officer "they did nothing wrong." That's when video shows the officer restraining the girl. The video shows the girl being taken to the ground -- face first.

When several other teens surround the officer, the video shows the officer pulling out his weapon.

The girl can be heard screaming -- saying "I want to call my mom."

Some witnesses are saying the officer acted inappropriately, while others say given the situation, the officers who responded did what was necessary.

McKinney police spoke out about the video Sunday.

According to McKinney Police Chief Greg Conley, 12 officers responded to the scene on Friday evening.

“Officers were confronted by a large group of people. Private security and homeowners were pointing out juveniles who were creating the disturbance, fighting, and refusing to leave,” Conley said.

Conley said since the video has surfaced, an investigation is underway.

Police say during the incident, one man was arrested for interference of duties of an officer and evading arrest. The 14-year-old in the video was detained, but later released without charge.

No injuries were reported.
