Latest: 67-year-old man dies at hospital after crash on I-41; two others injured

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Officials with the Wisconsin State Patrol say one person was killed and two others were injured in a crash that occurred on I-41 near Pioneer Road in the Town of Polk in Washington County on Monday, August 24th.

It happened around 11:30 a.m., and involved three vehicles.

Officials say a commercial truck driven by a 42-year-old man was headed southbound on I-41, approaching Pioneer Road.

Traffic ahead was slowing for a construction project on 41/45, and the truck struck one vehicle from behind, pushing it towards the median. A second vehicle was also struck before the truck came to a stop on the right shoulder.

The driver of the first vehicle that was struck was unresponsive when officers arrived.

Officers and witnesses performed CPR, but the 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification to his family.

 

The truck driver and the 50-year-old driver of the other vehicle were treated and released.

The victim's dog was taken to the Washington County Humane Society for safekeeping.

I-41 southbound was closed to traffic for approximately two hours as crews handled this crash scene.
