Caught on camera: Men wearing Halloween masks attempt to rob safe at Elm Grove Sendik's

ELM GROVE -- Police are investigating an armed robbery at the Elm Grove Sendik's grocery store on Watertown Plank Road. The robbery happened around 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28th.

Investigators say two armed men wearing Halloween masks approached two product delivery workers -- taking at least one at gunpoint through the rear entrance of the store.

"They brought him into the store and demanded to be taken to where the safe area is in the building," Elm Grove Police Chief Jim Gage said.

Chief Gage says the worker didn't know the layout of the store, and didn't know the combination to the safe.

"They weren`t able to gain access. While that was occurring, (the suspects) fired two shots in the store," Chief Gage said.

The suspects fled the scene before police showed up.

The suspects are both described as males, black, about 5'5" to 5'10" tall. Each was wearing a Halloween-type mask and gloves.

Nobody was hurt -- and no money was taken in this crime. We're told there were just a few employees inside the store at the time, and no customers.

Chief Gage says the suspects left in a Pontiac G6 with stolen license plates.

Rachael Keene rode her bike to the Sendik's store on Monday -- unaware of the chilling events that had unfolded earlier in the day.

"That's obviously worrisome," Keene said.

A Sendik's spokesman told FOX6 News the company is grateful no one was hurt -- and Sendik's officials are cooperating with the investigation.

Additional details about the type of gun used in this case and the vehicle with stolen plates are not being released at this time.
