"A promise to advance knowledge:" UW-Milwaukee celebrates opening of new KIRC facility
MILWAUKEE -- An eye-catching building on UW-Milwaukee's campus is now welcoming students eager to learn.
"This building is the first new building on our campus in 20 years. It's got 132,000 square feet that's dedicated to science, engineering, technology, and mathematics," said UWM Chancellor Mark Mone.

Faculty and students celebrated the opening of the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex or KIRC with a dedication ceremony.
"A promise to advance knowledge, to advance learning, a promise to build a better life for this generation and for generations to come," said UW System President Ray Cross.

The building has state of the art equipment and laboratories promoting collaboration between departments.
"Biologists working with physicists, working with engineers, working chemists, and occasionally working with a psychologist as well," said UWM Dean of College of Letters and Science Rodney Swain.
This building has about 20 labs where students and faculty will be working together to research everything from physics, to environmental health, to drug discovery.
The KIRC helped UWM secure $11.5 million in grants for research to help make a difference in the future.
