Arkell & Dana's Baby Bun: Couple whose pregnancy announcement went viral ask that you pray for their son
DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Virginia — The mother behind a pregnancy announcement that went viral earlier this month has given birth to her child 16 weeks early.
According to their social media update, Kaleb Arkell Graves was born Tuesday, October 20th at 24 weeks and one day.
Kaleb’s mother, Dana Griffin-Graves, was in critical care at the hospital.
Her husband, Arkell, whose reaction to his wife’s news was filmed and posted to YouTube, posted on Facebook saying,
Today, our baby will have to be delivered, at 24 weeks and one day. As Dana is in critical care, her body has endured all it can take. We are believing God. It’s always been in His hands, so we hold on to Him. Please keep us in your prayers today and always.
On Wednesday, October 21st, Dana posted an update saying:
When I arrived in the intensive care unit over a week ago, they told me in order to save my life, I had to terminate his. My blood pressure was 223/113 but I couldn’t…he was my miracle and I had to give him a fighting chance to make it. Daily I was told how my chances of survival were declining because of my heart functions and chronic blood pressure.
With only a 5% chance of survival, Kaleb is here. I’m grateful to God, my wonderful husband Arkell and my amazing family."
Dana and Arkell started trying to have kids after they got married 17 years ago. But it has not been easy. After delivering a stillborn baby at six months, and four miscarriages, the couple decided to let go of their dream of being parents.
Time passed and Dana recently started walking with her friends, but she wasn’t losing weight like they were. So she went to the doctor.
That’s when she found out she’s five months pregnant.
Dana surprised Arkell by putting literal buns in the oven, and next to the buns, she placed a sonogram picture.
When Arkell realized he’s going to be a dad, his reaction was perfect. Dana filmed the reveal and the couple found themselves in the spotlight.
