Officials with the Medical Examiner's Office say they were notified of the child's death around 7:20 p.m.

A witness tells FOX6 News an off-duty paramedic was at the scene when this incident occurred and rushed over to perform CPR on the child.

Police confirm there were citizens working to save the boy's life before first responders could arrive.

"I was terrified and I called my wife and I asked that we right here, right now, just pray while this is happening. Pray right now for the life of this boy and that`s what we did for several minutes. It was hard to watch," Jerry Broitzman said.

One witness says from what he could see, it appeared as though the driver of the striking vehicle seemed to be in shock after the incident.
