Lambeau Field ready to honor veterans at Sunday’s Packers-Lions matchup
GREEN BAY -- Lambeau Field is ready to honor veterans in Sunday’s Packers-Lions matchup, presented by Rexnord.
In conjunction with the NFL-wide Salute to Service recognition of Veteran’s Day, many activities both on and off the field on Sunday will be dedicated to showing appreciation to the U.S. Military.
On the field, each player will wear and use newly designed equipment that features the NFL Salute to Service camo-ribbon decal. The stadium will also feature camouflage Salute to Service goal post wraps, banners and pylon decals. These game-used items will be auctioned off at NFLauction.nfl.com, with proceeds benefitting the league’s core military non-profit partners.
As part of the Salute to Service game activities, Senior Airman Denver Murphy, a member of the United States Air Force band of Mid-America, will sing the national anthem, and U.S. Veterans and active military students and alumni from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the Wisconsin National Guard will hold a large flag on the field. The United States Coast Guard from Traverse City, Mich., will perform a flyover with two helicopters.
In the Lambeau Field Atrium, fans will have the opportunity to sign and send a holiday card to a service member with the help of the American Red Cross as a part of their annual Holiday Mail for Heroes program. A card signing station will be open from 8 a.m. until halftime in the Atrium. Red Cross volunteers will deliver the cards throughout the holiday season to service members, veterans and their families across the world and around the country.
In addition to the Salute to Service activities, former Packers executive vice president and general manager Ron Wolf will be honored on the field in a special ceremony, as his name is unveiled on Lambeau Field’s east façade in recognition of his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
During Wolf’s time with the Packers (1991-2001), the team recorded seven consecutive winning seasons and six straight playoff appearances, winning two NFC championships and one Super Bowl. Wolf was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015 as a contributor candidate, and is the 23rd member of the Packers to be elected to the Hall.
The Packers and Sargento Touchdowns for Charities will also be holding a non-perishable food drive along the fan walkway near the Tundra Tailgate Zone prior to the game. Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items or make monetary contributions that will benefit Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay and the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee. Packers alum Chris Jacke will be on-site signing autographs and taking photos for contributing fans from 9 to 11 a.m.
Also at halftime, the High School Quarterback Challenge competition on the field will feature players from N.E.W. Lutheran High School and Prairie Farm High School.
Two featured alumni are scheduled to make appearances throughout the weekend at various locations. Bob Skoronski and Carroll Dale will be taking part in fan activities at the Lambeau Field Atrium, Tundra Tailgate Zone and Legends Club leading up to kickoff.
Also on Sunday is the premier gameday tailgate party in the Tundra Tailgate Zone (TTZ), which will open at 8 a.m., along with the Lambeau Field parking lot.
Fans will receive Salute to Service Flags, compliments of Rexnord, as the game giveaway as they enter the stadium.
