"Nothin' But Nets:" Port Wasington's Port Exploreum unveils a new exhibit

PORT WASHINGTON -- Lake Michigan has played a big role in Port Washington's economy and culture. That history is now on display at the Port Exploreum's newest exhibit "Nothin' But Nets."

"'Nothin' But Nets' is the story of commercial fishing and the legacy of the families that made up that industry," said Port Exploreum Executive Director Wayne Chrusciel.

The most eye-catching display in the exhibit is the Lake Michigan Table.

"There's no place you can go and learn this much about Lake Michigan in one spot," said Chrusciel.

The touch screen allows you to click and learn about the past.

"There are pieces on here about ecology, there's history, there are stories about shipwrecks," said Chrusciel.

Through GPS, you can see the location of ships, along with current and future conditions of the lake.

"You can come in here and learn what the temperature is going to be at 6:00 tonight. What's going to be the wave heights tomorrow? In the winter, we'll have projected ice cover on the lake," said Chrusciel.

'Nothin' But Nets' will be at the Port Exploreum through the summer of next year and the Lake Michigan Table is a permanent display.
