Ready for you: Milwaukee Art Museum installs final object in its renovated galleries

MILWAUKEE -- It's been sitting in storage for more than a year, but now it's carefully being moved back into the spotlight.

"People love the painting. Little kids love it, sophisticated art collectors love it, it's a great painting, iconic painting," said Milwaukee Art Museum Chief Curator Brady Roberts.

Sunny #4 is the final object of the 2,500 works of art being put back on display in the Milwaukee Art Museum's renovated galleries, keeping the art handlers very busy.

"You have to be real creative through the whole process whether it's being extremely careful and thoughtful but there's always challenges that arise so thinking on the go is something we have to emphasize," said Art Handler Arthur Mohagen.

This last painting going up on the wall is a depiction of artist Alex Katz's dog.

"It's funny because Alex Katz is a pretty serious guy and this is an unusual painting for him in that it's so light-hearted," said Roberts.

The renovation project was six years of planning and 14 months of construction, fixing structural issues and building an addition.

"It was a chance to really completely overhaul the collection presentation at the Milwaukee Art Museum," said Roberts.

Members of the Milwaukee Art Museum can get a sneak peek into the renovated galleries over the weekend and the grand re-opening celebration will take place on Tuesday, November 24th at 10 a.m. for the general public.
