Second of three men charged in fatal shooting in Racine has been sentenced to prison

RACINE COUNTY -- The second of three men charged in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in Racine in December 2014 has been sentenced to prison.

25-year-old Bobby Henderson in September pleaded no contest to a felony charge of second degree reckless homicide. Two other charges were dismissed.

In court on Monday, November 30th, Henderson was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison and eight years extended supervision.

A restitution has been scheduled for January 14th, 2016 for Henderson.

25-year-old Travenn Webster, one of three men charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Racine in December of 2014 has been sentenced.

In September, Webster pleaded guilty to a felony charge of robbery.

Two other charges were dismissed as a result of that plea.

On November 19th, Webster was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison, and five years extended supervision.

25-year-old Daimon Von Jackson Jr. faces three charges in this case:

He has a motion hearing set for January 8th, 2016, and a jury trial scheduled to begin in February.

Maurice Carter was shot and killed near 10th and Grand Avenue in Racine on December 11th, 2014.

It happened shortly before 11:00 p.m.

According to the criminal complaint, a witness, who told police Carter was his best friend, indicated they were both at a home on Grand Avenue that night. A small group had congregated at the residence to play cards.

That's when the witness said his girlfriend called and advised him to get everyone out of the house, including himself.

According to the complaint, the witness and Carter packed up their belongings -- placing them in the trunk of a vehicle. As they planned to leave, the witness said he observed two black males walking eastbound on 10th Street near Grand Avenue.

The witness was able to get a close look at these individuals, and was able to provide a description to police.

At one point, these individuals began to run toward Maurice Carter, according to this witness. Carter was standing outside a vehicle into which he and the witness were placing their items.

A scuffle then ensued, after both of these individuals were able to "overcome" Carter.

The witness said he then heard at least one gunshot, and Carter fell to the ground.

Both suspects then leaned over Carter's body -- and appeared to be going through his pockets as part of a robbery, according to the complaint.

The witness admitted to police that he drove his vehicle at a high rate of speed toward the suspects, in an attempt to get them away from his friend.

At the scene, officers located an ammunition magazine for a handgun lying in the roadway.

Two latent fingerprints were collected from that handgun magazine.

Those fingerprints matched a person identified as Bobby Henderson.

Henderson was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Racine the following day.

Police say Henderson admitted his involvement in this fatal shooting. He also identified the two others charged in this case.

According to the complaint, Henderson indicated that Webster asked the group “who wants to make money?”

Henderson said the group decided that Webster would drop both Jackson and Henderson off near 10th and Grand Avenue -- and that it was pre-arranged for Webster to pick them up in near 10th and Villa.

Henderson stated that he had observed a handgun that Jackson had possessed earlier in the evening and Jackson passed the handgun to him.

Henderson stated that he was curious about the gun -- at which time he ejected the magazine and inspected it.

The complaint indicates that's when Henderson believes his fingerprints were left not only on the gun -- but on the magazine as well.

Henderson stated that he handed the gun back to Jackson, who then had it on him during the robbery incident.

Henderson stated that he and Jackson walked eastbound on 10th Street to Grand Avenue at which time they observed two individuals on the east side of the street subsequently identified as Maurice Carter and his friend.

Henderson reports that he and Jackson continued to walk southbound on the sidewalk near 10th and Grand Avenue, at which time Henderson stated they cut between two cars.

Henderson stated he went toward the car where Carter's friend was located and Jackson went to the car where Carter was standing.

Henderson stated that the person that he was going toward panicked and began to pull off and then he heard Jackson scuffling with Carter at which time he heard two gunshots.

Henderson stated that he then freaked out and proceeded to run eastbound through yards -- eventually meeting up with Jackson and Webster and his vehicle.

Henderson reported that once in the vehicle he asked Jackson why he shot the guy to which Jackson stated “he thought that he (Carter)” had a gun -- so he shot him, according to the complaint.

As for Jackson, the complaint indicates that at first, he told police he had no knowledge of the incident that occurred near 10th and Grand Avenue.

But he ultimately indicated that he was part of the robbery and shooting incident.

Jackson stated that they didn’t mean to kill Carter and that Jackson was merely acting as a lookout for the robbery that was supposed to occur -- but that it turned into a shooting and a homicide.
