Be a hero to a child: Donate to the Make-A-Wish Radio-A-Thon

GREENFIELD -- The holiday spirit is taking over the air waves at 95.7 Big FM as Murphy and Meg are kicking off their annual Make-A-Wish Radio-A-Thon.

"Meeting some of these families and learning about their tremendous challenges is so humbling," said Meg McKenzie.

They're encouraging listeners to call in and donate to ,, which has granted about 5,500 wishes since 1984 to children suffering from a life threatening illness.

"This year we will grant a record-breaking 365 wishes. That's a wish a day," said Make-A-Wish Wisconsin Public Relations Manager Forrest Doolen.

Helping kids like 5-year-old Linkin Eger who has been fighting a brain tumor since he was just 2-years-old.

His wish was to go camping and find Big Foot.

"They had Big Foot clues set up so there was Big Foot prints that he was finding and had everyone stop and look at," said Linkin's mother Kelly Eger.

Linkin couldn't believe it when he found Big Foot.

"I was pretty surprised," said Linkin.

This boost of joy can have an emotional and physical impact, as many of the children take a turn for the better during their treatment.

"It just sparked an energy in all of us that we probably we drained of for the last two years going in and out of doctor appointments," said Kelly.

By donating to Make-A-Wish you can help other kids just like Linkin. The Make-A-Wish Radio-A-Thon is going on from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. December 3rd and 4th. Each wish costs around $10,000, so they need all the help they can get. For more information on donating, CLICK HERE.
