Virginia math teacher accused of stealing shoes, returning them with "biological evidence"
HENRICO COUNTY, Virginia -- Police say a man is in custody, accused of stealing shoes and returning them with "biological evidence" in them. These thefts have occurred since early September.
Police have identified the suspect as Kenneth Johnson III. WTVR has confirmed Johnson is a math teacher at Varina High School in Henrico County. He has been placed on administrative leave.
Police say there are four related incidents that have been reported -- but they believe there are more victims -- possibly in other jurisdictions.
Police haven’t specified what type of bodily fluids were left in the shoes, but did say it is not fecal in nature.
“We had an incident where one house had the same thing happen twice -- and that’s when we started looking more seriously," Henrico Police Lt. Chris Eley said.
One victim told WTVR she confronted the man when she drove up to her home and found him walking away with her running shoes.
The woman says she asked the man what he was doing -- and he told her he loved the smell of her shoes -- sniffing them in front of her.
Another victim said in an email sent out to the area's neighborhood watch group that she found a note in her shoe, that said the suspect was "a married man -- and his wife’s shoes did not have a smell and he liked performing perverted activity in the shoes and then returning them.”
Police are now asking for the public's help in identifying and locating more potential victims.
