"Pretty bold:" Nun the latest victim of car theft crisis -- and it happened right outside the convent

MILWAUKEE -- FOX6 News has learned a nun is the latest victim of Milwaukee's car theft crisis. The suspects tried to take her vehicle -- but they were no match for this sister!

Everyone at the St. Joseph Convent is thankful the sister involved survived the incident, and only suffered minor injuries.

This is a story no one wants to hear -- especially just days before Christmas.

"That means anybody could get carjacked!" Florence Keene who lives nearby said.

Neighbors like Keene, who live near the St. Joseph Convent, near the School Sisters of St. Francis campus in Milwaukee are asking for a special gift this Christmas.

"I hope they catch them," Keene said.

Church officials say an attempted strong-armed robbery occurred in the parking lot on Tuesday, December 22nd around 4:30 p.m.

The sister involved was leaving to go home when she heard someone yell "get her keys!"

"It was pretty bold," Sister Catherine Ryan said.

Sister Ryan says her colleague was struck as two male suspects tried to steal her vehicle.

"We do have cameras. We did pick up on what happened and we shared that video with police," Sister Ryan said.

The communications director for the building tells FOX6 News the sister involved, who is in her 70s, managed to get into her vehicle and lock the door before the men could take anything.

The suspects then sped off -- and the nun drove off after them.

"The sister shared with the police as much as she was able to identify about the vehicle and part of the license plate," Sister Ryan said.

Sister Ryan says security has increased on campus as a result of this incident.

"We`re sorry this happened to our sister. We don`t want this happening to anyone," Sister Ryan said.

Especially considering Christmas celebrations are expected to draw hundreds to the area.

We're told the nun involved in this incident is doing just fine.

"God bless her. I hope she has a Merry Christmas -- and I hope they catch them," Keene said.

Police have not released details about the suspect vehicle in this case, but police say they are continuing to investigate, and they are looking for the suspects.
