Packers to hit the road to D.C. for Wild Card Weekend: Will fans be there to support them?

GREEN BAY -- Despite the Green Bay Packers' loss Sunday, January 3rd to the Minnesota Vikings, the Packers are in the playoffs, but they'll be hitting the road for their Wild Card Weekend matchup.

The Packers will face the Washington Redskins on Sunday, January 10th. Kickoff is set for 3:40 p.m., and it's a game you'll see ONLY ON FOX6!

Even as the team is set to make its seventh straight playoff appearance, Packers fans are struggling to find the positives -- especially after Sunday's loss to the Vikings at Lambeau Field.

"I just got really sad," a Packers fan said.

"It really wasn't worth watching after the second half," a Packers fan said.

So much has changed from this time one year ago.

Mike Holzberger

"This team is not meshing. They are not inspiring fans to go to games," Mike Holzberger with Connections Ticket Service said.

Holzberger says he's flush with first round passes, but fans may do exactly that -- pass on Sunday's game vs. the Redskins.

"Always after a Packers loss, we see there is a hangover period. They are shocked. They are depressed. They don't want to call," Holzberger said.

By noon on Monday, January 4th, not a single buyer had called, even as ticket prices were below $200.

"You see a lot of tickets available and that translates into lower prices," Holzberger said.

Fans are disappointed in their team's performance of late, but not every fan is counting out the Packers.

"I think they will win next week, so in a way I am not that discouraged. I think that it's OK they are going to Washington," a Packers fan said.

Holzberger predicts Connections Ticket Service will ultimately sell tickets for Sunday's game, but football alone may not be the deciding factor for Packers fans.

"People who haven't been to D.C. or haven't been in awhile, they'll look at it as an excuse to see some of the sights and go to some of the museums and things like that," Holzberger said.

Visiting the Smithsonian and Lincoln Memorial may be the real draw because, let's be honest, the Packers making a deep playoff run appears a monumental challenge.

"I don't know. I think the feeling is that this year it's not going to be their turn," a Packers fan said.

With tickets for Sunday's Packers/Redskins matchup below $200, that's more than $100 less than a round trip ticket to D.C., according to most online travel sites.
