Person finds hand grenade in box purchased at rummage sale, takes it to Elm Grove P.D.

ELM GROVE -- Elm Grove police say a person was shopping at a garage sale on Thursday, March 24th and bought a box of miscellaneous items. When that person got home and started unpacking the box, a hand grenade was found inside.

Officials the person then brought the device to the Elm Grove Police Department. Officers had the citizen keep the device outside the police station -- and contacted the Milwaukee Police Department’s bomb squad.

The MPD bomb squad removed the grenade from the scene and will investigate to see if it is “live” or inert.

The assistant chief at Elm Grove Police Department asks that if in the future residents come upon explosives -- like a grenade or other military ordnance -- that they call the police and not transport the devices to the village facilities.
