Black bear spotted on campus of Wausau hospital, "casually" passing through

WAUSAU — A black bear was spotted on the campus of a hospital in Wausau.

The bear was spotted Friday morning, April 8th at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Tamarah Scholze, the hospital's hazard response and security manager, told the Wausau Daily Herald Media that the bear "did not present as aggressive" and "casually" wandered through the lots.

According to Scholze, the bear went into a patch of woods near St. Matthew Catholic Church and Faith Christian Academy. Scholze says the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was notified.

Department of Natural Resources warden Ben Herzfeldt tells WSAW-TV that bears are coming out of hibernation. He says bears are looking for food, so it's not uncommon to see them around dumpsters and birdfeeders.
