"They just pull out a gun and -- boom!" Girls ages 17, 13 shot after argument near 45th & Wright

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a double shooting that happened near 45th and Wright on Monday afternoon, April 25th.

It happened just after 3:00 p.m.

Police say a 17-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl were shot after an argument.

They were taken to the hospital by family members.

The investigation is ongoing -- and police are seeking a known suspect.

For some, the crime tape in the neighborhood on Monday afternoon was a frightening reminder of what summer brings in Milwaukee.

"As the days get hotter and longer, you're going to have two or three shootings a day," Demarcus Tyce, Sr. said.

"I just hate that this has to go on," Chanta Jones said.

Jones watched the police investigation from across the street. After she learned the victims were just 17 and 13, she called upon the parents in the community to step up and parent their children.

"It starts at home.  It really does.  That`s where you lay your seed and that`s where it`s going to grow," Jones said.

The 13-year-old victim in this case is just one year older than Chad Cooper, who was outside playing when the violence erupted.

"They just pull out a gun and -- boom!" Cooper said.

"My boys, they ain`t going outside unless I`m outside.  We really need to find something for them to do during the summer," Tyce Sr., Cooper's father said.
