"I was hoping I hadn't dialed 911 and dozed off. Then I wanted to make sure it wasn't my grandkids messing around on the phone," said Rodriguez.

That's when Rodriguez says she noticed someone on a gurney. She thought it was her 88-year-old neighbor a couple houses down.

"She's an older person and we all keep our yards and things like that. I did think it was her because it was a hot day (Wednesday) and since everybody keeps up their yards, I thought maybe she had too much sun," said Rodriguez.

Milwaukee police say it was the woman's 68-year-old son -- being treated for stab wounds. They say his 88-year-old mother is in custody as they investigate what led to this stabbing.

Several neighbors say they were concerned for the woman's well-being -- adding police had been called to the home in the past.

The police activity disturbed what is normally a very peaceful block.

Neighbors said in addition to the quiet, what they really love about this neighborhood is the nature. They can listen to the birds, walk and look at the plants and trees -- and there is a school in the area.

Police say the son sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.

An investigation is ongoing.
