Milwaukee's 151st Memorial Day Parade steps off at 2:00 p.m. at 4th and Wisconsin

UNION GROVE -- Ahead of Memorial Day, dozens on Sunday, May 29th came out to the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Ceremony in Union Grove -- to honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

This was the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Memorial Day ceremony.

Memorial Day was first observed after the Civil War. Memorial Day is now an opportunity to honor the men and women who have died in wars since.

"I hope families, especially young children, have an opportunity to come out and see the ceremonies in their local communities because more and more we want to show our communities what veterans have sacrificed for them," John Scocos, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs said.

While Veterans Day is meant for honoring all of those who have served, Memorial Day is specifically for honoring those who have died while serving.

Milwaukee's 151st annual Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 30th.

It begins at 2:00 p.m. at 4th and Wisconsin, and marchers will make their way to the War Memorial Center near the lake.

This year, the parade honors the United States Marine Corps veterans. It has been a Milwaukee tradition since 1865.
