Police investigate homicide: Man stabbed during fight near 18th & State

MILWAUKEE --Milwaukee police are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, June 26th near 18th and State Street. It happened around 8:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that two people, known to each other, became involved in a fight. During the fight, a 32-year-old man, later identified as Justin Girtler, was stabbed. He died from his injury.

MFD responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures according to their protocol, but were unsuccessful.

A 45-year-old man remains in custody for the crime.

MPD will present this case in the coming days to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for a review of charges.

Meanwhile, a fund has been established to raise money for Girtler's funeral. Donations can be made at Mitchell Bank (there are two locations -- one at 124th/Oklahoma and the other at 10th/Mitchell).
