Mount Pleasant woman charged with punching, stomping on young girls during dispute

MOUNT PLEASANT -- A 35-year-old Mount Pleasant woman is facing multiple charges after she allegedly hit an 11-year-old girl in the face and stomped on the neck of a 12-year-old girl during an incident that took place on Wednesday, July 13th.

Sherrita Johnson

According to a criminal complaint, 35-year-old Sherrita Johnson admitted to bringing two of her children, ages 12 and 15, to a home near 21st Street and Thurston Avenue in Mount Pleasant, around 3:00 a.m. to "fight the juveniles they were having problems with."

The complaint states officials were called to the home on 21st Street around 3:30 a.m. A woman told authorities her 11-year-old daughter was struck in the face by Johnson.

Investigators also interviewed a 12-year-old girl who stated Johnson stomped on her neck during this incident and caused her pain.

Authorities interviewed Sherrita Johnson, who admitted a fight ensued, but denied hitting and stomping on either of the young girls.

Officials say the 11 and 12-year-old girls both had consistent statements regarding what had occurred. They stated Johnson punched the 11-year-old girl in the face, and after doing so, she went over and "stomped on the neck" of the 12-year-old girl, while she was fighting with one of Johnson's daughters.

According to a criminal complaint, Johnson has a pending prosecution for burglary in Dane County, for which she was released on bond on June 8th. The bond was in full force and effect, and Johnson was not allowed to engage in any illegal activity. Johnson violated that bond during this incident.

Sherrita Johnson now faces two counts of child abuse, one count contribute/delinquency child, and three counts of felony bail jumping.
