Waukesha County Park System officials invite Pokémon GO players to stay cool amid excessive heat

WAUKESHA -- The Waukesha County Department of Parks and Land Use invites Pokémon GO players to safely take advantage of the "Gyms" and "PokéStops" located in the County Parks System’s ice arenas and beaches to stay cool during this week’s anticipated heat wave.

“The Waukesha County Park System offers a wide range of amenities so residents can stay active year-round,” said Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow said in a statement issued to FOX6 News. “We have two ice arenas and six beautiful beaches for families and individuals to safely enjoy during high heat this week.”

Parks officials say on Thursday, July 21st, the Park System will place Pokémon lures at the PokéStops outside both Waukesha County Ice Arenas during their open skate hours. Players who show the Pokemon GO app to Ice Arena staff at this time will receive a free ice skate rental.

Naga-Waukee Park Ice arena will extend its open skate hours on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 2699 Golf Road in Delafield. Open skate at Eble Park Ice Arena at 19400 W. Bluemound Road in Brookfield is from noon to 2:00 p.m.

Members of the public may use the ice arenas as cooling stations for free. The cost to skate is $6.50 for adults and $5.00 for seniors and children.

Multiple PokéStops and gyms are also located near each of Waukesha County’s six swimming beaches.
