RACINE — Racine County deputies responded to an overturned U-Haul truck on northbound I-94 late Friday, July 29th — and ended up arresting the driver of that vehicle.

Emergency crews were dispatched to I-94 just north of County Highway C in the Town of Yorkville shortly before 11:00 p.m. They found the truck was on its side, blocking the right lane.

Officials say a large amount of personal possessions had been thrown from the truck during the accident and covered all three lanes of traffic.

Northbound I-94 was temporarily shut down at State Highway 20, due to the accident and resulting debris. It was later reopened. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The operator of the truck, a 54-year-old Chicago man, was taken to Wheaten Franciscan – Racine with non-life-threatening injuries. He was released from the hospital and taken to the Racine County Jail where he was charged with Operating While Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (3rd offense).
