Voters take note: Absentee voting ends soon for August primary

MILWAUKEE -- Anyone interested in casting an absentee ballot by mail for the August 9th partisan primary must do so before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4th, election officials say. Voters may cast an in-person absentee ballot in the clerk’s office until close of business on Friday.

Submit a letter or email requesting an absentee ballot to the municipal clerk in the city or village where you reside that includes the following information:

If you are a temporary absentee voter, meaning you are only requesting a ballot for selected elections and do not qualify to be a permanent absentee voter, you will need to provide a photocopy of an acceptable photo ID before your absentee ballot can be mailed. The copy of your ID will be kept on file, and you will not need to submit it again when making future requests for an absentee ballot.

The following Photo IDs are acceptable for voting purposes: Wisconsin driver license, Photo ID card issued by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, U.S. Passport, U.S. Military ID, Veterans Affairs ID, Certificate of Naturalization, Tribal ID, and most college and university student IDs along with proof of enrollment. The photo ID does not have to show a current address.

If you do not have any of these forms of identification, go to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to obtain a free photo ID. For more information on Wisconsin’s voter photo ID law go to Bring It to the Ballot.

If you are a permanent absentee voter, meaning you are indefinitely confined and unable to leave your home due to age, illness, infirmity or disability, you are not required to provide a photo ID when requesting your absentee ballot. The last day for indefinitely confined electors and military electors who are NOT on active duty away from their voting residence to request absentee ballots by mail for the Partisan Primary is August 5th at 5:00 p.m.

If you reside in the City of Milwaukee you may email your absentee ballot request to: absenteeballot@milwaukee.gov.
