"We miss him dearly:" Family of Jay Anderson grieves, notes connection to Sylville Smith case

MILWAUKEE -- Nearly two months after a Wauwatosa man is killed by a police officer, his fiancee says they have a close connection to the man killed by a Milwaukee police officer.

Star Delarosa

Star Delarosa says while this place has brought her so much sadness, Madison Park in Wauwatosa is where she takes her kids to be closest to their father. It has been nearly two months since 25-year-old Jay Anderson was shot and killed by a Wauwatosa police officer while inside his car.

"My kids' life has not being the same. We miss him dearly," Delarosa said.

Ironically, Delarosa says she personally knows the brother of Sylville Smith.

"Both of these families are grieving. No answers, as I understand it, from both sides," Delarosa said.

While the cases appear similar in nature, there are very stark differences. After Smith's death, businesses burned. Following Anderson's, there were peaceful marches. Investigators say Smith was running from police with a stolen gun. Anderson was sitting in a car -- it is unclear if he was holding his weapon.

Whether the same or different, Delarosa says the pain it is causing the entire community is on full display.

"I'm not surprised it happened because a lot of people are angry behind everything," Delarosa said.

There have been immediate calls to release the body camera video by Smith's family.

In Anderson's death, the family has been told there was no body camera. But they want the dash camera, which they have seen, to be made public.

The Wauwatosa Police Department tells FOX6 News investigators are still waiting on enhanced dash cam video to be sent back from the FBI.

Both investigations will be made public when they are completed.
