BROWN DEER -- Brown Deer police held a news conference on Tuesday, October 4th to update their investigation into a dog attack on two girls that occurred near 48th and Dean on September 29th. Police showed dash cam video of the incident. Because it is graphic, FOX6 News is choosing not to show it in its entirety.

Two 14-year-old girls were attacked by two pit bulls around 4:30 p.m. on September 29th. The girls suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries -- including severe bites and scratches all over their bodies. The dogs apparently lived in the home with one of the girls.

Dash cam video from this incident shows an officer turning into the neighborhood. At first, it appears to be a typical afternoon. A child can be seen walking along the side of the road, along with a woman holding a baby. The video shows a school bus stopped in the distance.

Then, one of the 14-year-old girls appears on one side of the screen -- standing in a ditch in the front yard of a home. Suddenly, the video shows a pit bull lunging at her, knocking her to the ground.

The video then shows the other 14-year-old girl already on the ground, being attacked by a second dog.

"We know the initial attack occurred inside one of the victim`s home. The girl attempted to get away from the dogs by fleeing outside. However, the dogs pursued and attacked her and a friend until the officer intervened," Brown Deer Police Chief Michael Kass said.

When police arrived at the scene, an officer who has been with the department for five years, approached the animals and fired six shots -- all of them hitting the two dogs. One dog died at the scene. The other was turned over the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC). The dog's owner requested it be euthanized -- and is cooperating with police in their investigation. He is not related to either of the victims in this case.

"I’ve been in law enforcement almost 30 years and I’ve never seen an incident this horrific by two dogs. The officers realized the girls were in immediate peril and took action to stop the attack," Kass said.

Kass said police had not responded to the house where this incident happened prior to the September call.

Brown Deer does not have any specific ordinances regarding pit bulls.

It's unclear at this point whether charges will be filed in this case.

These type of animals are associated with many mauling’s and should not be kept as pet. I don’t care about the owner didn’t treat it right argument and they are a friendly breed. Disgusting that this would happen to a child.

    • CLL

You can’t judge a breed of dogs based off of some dogs actions. Just how I’m sure you hate being gerneralized by the color of your skin. I’m a pit bull owner and have a 3 year old son and they are best friends. These dogs are also in the same classifications as German shepherds, huskies (I was shocked to hear that), etc. poor girl and poor family I’m glad they’re cooperating and it’s unfortunate they lost their dogs but sometimes it has to be done. Praying for a speedy recovery!

      • Always Outspoken

CLL – “I’m a pit bull owner and have a 3 year old son and they are best friends.” – until suddenly they’re not, and another child is mauled.

These dogs have a propensity to mentally “snap” and go into attack mode. It’s always the same story – a sweet, loving pet that inexplicably goes on a rampage. They don’t see reality until it’s too late. The statistics don’t lie – check it out for yourself at >>>http://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics.php<<< (or just do a quick Google search).

Yes, ANY dog can attack – but pit bulls are disproportionately likely to do so. It's a FACT. They're also responsible for the most deaths from dog attacks. That's another FACT.

Why would you advertise the fact that you’re endangering your son? Friendly pit bulls attack, too. It is very poor judgment to keep a pit bull at all, let alone with children. Look at the video to see why.

  • Chris

Part of the problem is most of these are rescued fighting dogs. They were breed for their fighting abilities and not brain power. This would be rare if this breed was bread for brain power and not fighting abilities.

  • sometimesarose

Pit bulls were/are bred to be fighting dogs. It’s not the dog’s fault, but fighting dogs are not pets. The propagation of this breed must stop. There are so many other breeds that are more suitable.

  • Metal Maniac

Ever hear of the straw-man argument? Stop comparing this to racism, that doesn’t solve the issue.

Unlike a gun or car, these animals have a mind of their own, follow Miami and most of Canada and ban these things. 99% of Rental or home owner Insurance does not cover them for a reason which means a vast majority are in-fact already illegal.

  • Wow

Sad that so many people are still so ignorant in this day and age. Pit bulls are one of the most people friendly breeds in existence. They can be beat into hating people, but even that doesn’t work most of the time. The problem is that irresponsible people and dope dealers buy them as guard dogs. They must be abused to get them aggressive. Then stories like this happen. Another huge problem is that people breed them with mastiffs and other large breeds. Then you have a dog that LOOKS like a pit bull and is labeled one of it attacks. Several large doge look like pit bulls but are not. This is the most misunderstood breed ever.

    • Yup

People also need to realize that if you get rid of this breed, stupid people with buy another type of “guard dog.” Then that dog with be mistreated and will assume the new role as a “problem breed.” That cycle will continue. If you blame an entire breed where do you stop?

    • Jane Addams

You do realize you’re saying they’re the friendliest breed underneath a video of a vicious, tenacious, and violent pit bull attack that illustrates just how crazy your statement is, right?

  • Land_Shark

Margaret Jaramillo raised her Pit Bulls to be such wonderful pets until they killed 2 Year Old Piper Dunbar last week in Kansas.

  • Ihatestupidpeople

All of you ignorant people need to find something better to b*#%h about. I completely agree with you CLL you cant judge a dog by the breed (which pit bull is not a breed). I have two and just the other day i was outside with them and some lady was walking by with a German shepherd and a tiny little rat dog and for no reason at all snapped at my dog ( who proceeded to roll on her back to show she was submissive ) while my other one barked back. Every since they were puppies and still today i put my face by theirs, stick my hand in there mouth etc. It has everything to do with how you train them. this looks like a situation where the dogs lack the proper training or were never trained at all.
