Voting "no-no:" Justin Timberlake could face 30-day jail sentence for taking, posting selfie in booth
UPDATE: TMZ reports Justin Timberlake is in the clear in this case. The official in the Shelby County District Attorney's Office who said they were looking into a possible criminal violation in connection with Timberlake's selfie at the voting booth says he screwed up. He said although the DA was aware of the selfie, no law enforcement agent, election commission official or police officer had filed a formal complaint, so the matter wasn't on the table for review.
Justin Timberlake could go to jail for 30 days for taking a selfie in a voting booth, according to TMZ.
TMZ is reporting Timberlake posted the photo of himself back home in Tennessee on Monday, October 24th at his polling place.
Tennessee law prohibits voters from taking photos or recording conversations in voting booths. Violators can be slapped with a 30-day jail sentence and a $50 fine.
A representative with the Shelby County District Attorney's Office told TMZ the Timberlake case is "under review."
The "anti-selfie" law was passed in 2015, but TMZ was told so far, no one has been prosecuted.
An official from the election's board where Timberlake voted is clearly against prosecution, telling TMZ he should be commended, not prosecuted, for inspiring people to get out and vote.
