Domestic violence victim advocates remind those feeling marginalized after election of resources available
MILWAUKEE -- Officials with the "Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault" are reminding folks of the resources available in the wake of the presidential election. A statement issued by officials on Friday, November 18th says the election season "has led numerous members of our community to question if they belong here."
Those with the Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence want those feeling threatened, excluded and fearful for their safety and for the safety and well-being of their loved ones to know there are resources available.
Domestic violence victim advocates say in addition, "triggering and harmful conversations about sexual violence have been generated by this presidential race, and in light of these feelings, the Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault urges greater inclusion and civility. We stand in solidarity with our colleagues to oppose discrimination, oppression and sexual violence of any kind."
Officials with the Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault said this in the statement:
"It is our collective responsibility to strive towards an equitable society and foster a culture that is welcoming for all. Diversity enriches our community. We must value the contributions of each and every individual while resisting oppression and discrimination in all forms. Sexual violence and oppression are inherently linked and must be addressed together. To that end, we remain steadfast in our commitment to prevent sexual violence and advocate for those affected by it.
The Commission encourages community members to exercise patience and compassion with one another.
We champion efforts to bridge our differences, address the root causes of oppression, and create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive society for everyone.
