PEWAUKEE -- For 21 years, Country Christmas has lit up the skies in December in Pewaukee.
“It’s spectacular," said Jenny Long, marketing assistant. "There’s nothing like it around. We are the largest drive-through lights display [in Wisconsin]."
More than a million lights dazzle along a mile-long trail, winding through the woods behind the Country Springs Hotel.
“It started with the Richards family, the former owners of the hotel. With their love of Christmas, they wanted to do something for the community," said Long.
And over the years, it’s become far more than a light show. The Streets of Bethlehem feature nativity pieces made in Italy and based on a collection at the Vatican.
“It started with just three pieces here. It’s grown to over 30 pieces," said Long.
The always-popular model train display inside the Christmas Village includes 12 different tracks and around 100 separate cars.
Overall, about a dozen employees at the hotel are responsible for the spectacle that is Country Christmas.
“Thousands of man hours go into putting this together. We start planning for next year in January," said Long.
All to bring a little slice of the North Pole to a winter wonderland in Wisconsin.
