“It is affecting our life:” UWM students, faculty protest Pres. Trump’s executive order on immigration

MILWAUKEE -- UW-Milwaukee students and faculty members joined dozens at universities across the country in protest Thursday, February 9th.

A crowd turned out in Spaights Plaza on the UWM campus, calling themselves "Academics United."

It was a protest against President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration.

Those with a number of student organizations said they feel the travel restrictions are directly affecting their education. Students said they hope to shine a light on how the ban impacts those legally living in the United States who are unable to visit their home countries.

"It is affecting our life. And as students who have been here for such a long time and have actually contributed to the country and university, we are kind of outraged by the injustice that has been happening in the last couple days," Amir Kalantari, UWM Persian Culture Association said.

A recent POLITICO poll shows the controversial ban has a 54 percent approval rating among voters polled.

President Donald Trump's travel ban will remain blocked, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday.

All of this protesting is affecting my life. As a tax paying American citizen I am entitled to representation from my elected officials. If you have a problem go to your senator or congressman. That’s the way a democracy works.

I wish everyone who supports Trump and/or law and order, could protest by stopping their employer from withholding taxes!!! Most of us are too busy working to protest, but it would be great to stop the money stream and then see how the rest of the country reacts!!!

NOBODY wants to stop refugees from LEGALLY coming to this country. This is about ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!!! Please, go take your medication.

These people are more then likely payed protesters, unions supply the money to hire protesters. That is what happened in madison when the teachers were supposably protesting governor walker. The people that were protesting were almost all from illinois, payed protesters. And if people were to protest against the Trump protesters the news media would only cover the anti Trump protesters. And that is why a lot of people no longer believe the news it prints lies and half truths or what it wants you to believe.

If the real conservative Trump supporters came out it would be overwhelming show of force. Unfortunately they have jobs that take up most of their time to go out and protest. Many democrats are Trump supporters but are afraid to come out of the closet in fear of reprisals at work and school. The liberals got into a cage match in the last election and got knocked out by a flying kick in the first round and still can’t walk straight.
