Speed a factor: Vehicle slams into tree, splits in two, Milwaukee man ejected and killed

MILWAUKEE -- A 19-year-old Milwaukee man died after a vehicle slammed into a tree near Fond du Lac and Roosevelt Monday, July 17th and split in two. Police say speed was a factor.

It happened around 4:00 p.m. The 1990 Lexus LS 400 was split in two as a result of the impact.

Police said the Milwaukee man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was driving eastbound on W. Fond du Lac Avenue at a high rate of speed when the car struck the curb and hit a tree. The victim was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"All lives matter. Milwaukee is not that big. We don't have to speed. It's not a good scene to see parents and siblings crying like this. Take a good look and think about what you are doing," Nell Scott said.

Officials with the Salvation Army were on scene to offer support to the family.

"We have to pray and keep the family lifted up because they really need prayer," Scott said.

The investigation is ongoing.
